Bonjour! We have arrived in France and all is well. The flight over here was overly hot, connected in Texas and left much to be desired, but got us and our luggage here in one piece. We arrived, navigated to and checked in at our little hotel, Hotel De La Comete. If anyone is coming to France, we booked it through TravelPod highly recommend it. Though the rooms are small and cozy it has a tiny and noisy elevator of which the check in lady said "it is small but it works" (I took a picture grab...
Paris, France beyondHey guys, we made it to Paris, France in one piece. This is a pretty cool city, our hotel is very authentic, the lady at the front desk is nice and helpful. The flight on the other hand, I must say, wasn't that great. Both of them. The straight shot from Portland to Frankfurt was very crowded and annoying. I tried to recline my seat and the lady behind me made a sound like, "Gah!" and hit the back of my seat really hard trying to get me not recline. So I just pushed harder and reclined all th...
Paris, Īle-de-France, France emily.wardWell, we leave Paris tomorrow morning! Our train departs for Madrid at 6am, but we don't get there until 9pm. We've had a great few days! On Thursday, we visited Notre-Dame and the Louvre. We also found out how expensive drinks are in Paris when we sat down at a cafe and spent 10 euros on a coffee and a bottled water! But the Notre-Dame was free, and it was very beautiful. We ate sandwiches at the park behind the cathedral and then made our way to the Louvre. We saw tons of art, but the highl...
Paris, France emily.wardOkay, so I've gotten a couple of questions so far and okay, I'm sort of narrating things and my dad is editing/writing. But it's still my blog. I can write just as well as him, he just types faster. Our flight left Chicago on time at 5:30, and it took forever to get to Paris. I was hoping to be able to see the city when we landed but it was all covered with clouds. Our first day in Paris was okay...I did some shopping and found myself a really cool dress for graduation at a little shop in a p...
Paris, France lunababySomething about having a looong night sleep after two days makes you feel a little more adventurous! We woke up about 11:30 and finally got out the door about 12:30...lol. Our first stop was the famous Louvre Art Museum. We saw the Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa. Personally, I think I am waaay prettier than both of them, lol!! We went across the street to a little shop called Gregory's where I got my friend's birthday present. We did some shopping later on at the Champs Elysees, but I ended ...
Paris, France lunababySo... many many many things have happened. highlights range from discovering hidden centuries-old caves on abbey property to touring the paris opera house to spending lots of time with my french/german host family. hopefully this will work better than posting pictures directly on here...i've made hyperlinks to my facebook photo albums, so even if you don't have facebook you should be able to view each one. here they are in order from the earliest: http://usm.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2 00072...
Pontlevoy, France wheremerBonjour everyone, I am typing this on my iPod as we take the train from Paris to Amsterdam so I apologize for any misspellings. We arrived in Paris on Monday afternoon. It was hard to believe we had been at this for a week already. We got in a bit later than expected so the hostel where we had booked our reservations had given our beds to someone else. They did, however call across the street to a hotel where we got our own private room and bathroom (a rarity for our budget) for the same pric...
Paris, France zlsmith82... were doing - sitting outside watching people go by while having dinner. It's the best entertainment in town! Across the street was a restaurant called Indiana which featured Tex-Mex food. Being originally from Indiana, I saw nothing to connect the two (Indiana and Tex-Mex). How odd! We've learned not to try Mexican food away from home. It's never the same.
Paris, France ethanater... in Paris. For what it's worth, we watched for about 10 minutes and didn't see any death, so maybe they are on to something. The next morning we all went to Notre Dame. I tried to bong a few beers in the tail gating section, but the police got all upset. So I snuck my boda bag in and "touch down Jesus" took on a whole new meaning. I'm just kidding. Those were terrible jokes, but I'm going leave them in anyway. Notre Dame is a beautiful cathedral. It's huge and ...
Paris, France natecropp... us as Americans to really understand another country and its culture. We come from a different place, our mind sets are different. Sometimes we get it right, sometimes they do. It would be wonderful if both nations and peoples could learn from each other. We would all be better if we at the least took time to try and understand one another. Which brings me back to the demonstrations in Paris. Wouldn't it be good for France if this time the French could just think a little more like us?
