Great location in the heart of Petite France on the Grand Rue. Short walk to the canals, Cathedral, etc. We arrived two hours before check-in but the staff said they'd have our room ready in ten minutes. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our third floor room decor was a strange mix of modern and post French Revolution. Good internet reception in room. No curtains only a thin pull-down shade. When the sun comes up at 6 AM, it's bright! Our room faced the street and a local street crowd on the corner howled at the moon until about 10 PM.

Wow - slept in this morning and almost missed our breakfast in the hotel. Lots of cold and hot items to choose from.

Following breakfast walked down towards the cathedral to where the river boat docks are. Booked the 13:30 trip on the river which was a 70 minute ride. Company was called Batorma and cost €11.25 each (after 10% hotel …

So the alarm went off at 5 as did our wake up call. Been up since 3 in anticipation of the call.

Checked out at 5:30 and walked about 10 minutes to the 'Botanique' metro station. Still raining so needed the umbrellas. Caught the 6:05 metro for the ride to Brussels Midi station. There in plenty of time for our 7:17 train for …

... dinner walk of the town (great way to ensure a good meal and not bad for practicing the language as well). Getting embarrassing to show any more entree photos so how about just the dessert tonight. Anyway, MJ had a pork steak with mushroom sauce, spaetzle and a wonderful salatteller. I went with a wonderfully crusted chicken breast with a medley of veggies and spaetzle. Oh ...

... neat as Rothenburg or Bernkastel. We walked the cobble-stoned streets before heading back to Lahr and an attempt to find the old Canadian casserne we I worked during both of my stays in Lahr (1978-80 and 1988-91). We found it but the light was not good enough for pictures. Tomorrow before we depart Lahr, we will stop by for some photos.

... we managed to find a comfortable downtown hotel (don't remember it). We stepped out for some food, I had goulash soup and MJ had flammenkucheen. We shared a nice big salad. Tomorrow when we can see what is what we will do some exploring and capture the sights. We will of course report on the old stomping grounds!!!!

So enjoy some flicks of the day. Night all!
