Great location in the heart of Petite France on the Grand Rue. Short walk to the canals, Cathedral, etc. We arrived two hours before check-in but the staff said they'd have our room ready in ten minutes. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our third floor room decor was a strange mix of modern and post French Revolution. Good internet reception in room. No curtains only a thin pull-down shade. When the sun comes up at 6 AM, it's bright! Our room faced the street and a local street crowd on the corner howled at the moon until about 10 PM.

Strasbourg, France may be our favorite city we have visited so far but it was certainly a quest to get here.
Between 8:00 AM and noon we utilized virtually every public mode of transportation available.to get from Heidelberg to Strasbourg.
During that period we took two busses, two commuter trains plus a high speed bullet train …
... car wasn't where I thought it should be. We walked halfway down each isle looking for it. I thought that for a moment , maybe someone had stolen it. We hit some very heavy traffic. It was stop and go ...

Our journey home went much more smoothly as we sang along to some more favorites by Old Blue Eyes ;-) We took a slightly different route that took us along the eastern side of Lac Léman, through Montreaux (home of the world famous Montreaux Jazz Festival) and through Evian (insert Jim Gaffigan routine here... http://youtu.be/H2mdFB7UTqc ...so hilarious!). It made for a very ...
... got a cheese cake, Shiv got a little marzipan pastry and the chocolate mousse and berry cake and I got the signature dish. No idea what it was called but it was amazing.
The cake consisted of a marzipan/almond base with a layer of raspberries, then a vanilla apricot cream. It is a great combination of flavours. Love it, and hope I can learn to make something simular ...
... immediately upon entering our bedroom. First was the breath-taking view from our large open windows that overlooked the old town's lit multicoloured buildings set beneath the mountains and trees of the Black Forest. Second, there was the bed. Like North American queen beds, there was a large sleeping space set in a frame, but that was where the similarities ended. The frame contained two twin mattresses, instead of one queen, and there were two separately ...
