Today In the morning we had a morning swim. The water was cold. yesterday we went to the poy du fou and it was phenominal. They were trying to act the ww1 and ww2, they did very good. At the poy du fou there were translators that can also change to the radio and I got to keep my one. We are staying at a miniature hotel.

... the market this morning. We saw grape vines, so wine is also produced.

The architecture of the buildings was different from what we have seen elsewhere. The houses and fences were mainly white with coloured shutters and the roofs had orange terracotta tiles. We have not been to Greece or Spain, but we felt that perhaps these villages were similar to those found in these countries.

... La Rochelle was English until 1372 when the French took it over. Building of the Saint Nicolas tower began in the early 1300s and finished after the French took over and built two other towers as defence. It was used only a fortnight ago as the diving platform for the red bull diving event. Truly a multi purpose building! ... At dinner we were sitting next to two Americans here on holiday and at the laundromat, we met an Aussie living here in France but on holiday here in La Rochelle. So it's all very social :). Once we're back on our room for the night, at about 1130pm, we can see the Ferris wheel all lit up. It was so beautiful that I spent too long admiring it and didn't think to take a photo until the lights had been turned on. We could also hear fireworks ...

Having left Brugge, we drove as far as we could into France using the Autoroutes where deemed neccessary. After a good few hours of driving and still 4 hours to our house, we stopped off for the night south of Tours. We rose relatively early, in yet more drizzle, to drive to our friends Paul & Karen for lunch before the last and final hour to home.
