It's almost break!

... 2nd, 2009 So for the last two days of school before break, I figured no one would want to actually learn anything so I didn't plan much. I gave them back their tests and explained how the American grade system works. In my two CM2 classes, the kids did fairly well. I think I had 2 Fs and a few Ds, but the rest was A, B, and C. My horrible class got pretty much all Ds and Fs. They couldn't believe how bad they did. I could totally ...

Last days of school for the year

... tell you how efficient France is. So oh well, I'll get it in March. At least it's in the process. And because I'm American I can leave the country when I want and be let back in when I want. I found a guy who told me that after I had my appointment. He must've been asked that a lot already because he never even looked up at me. After that I went home and started packing. Guess what I've lost? My US cell phone. It doesn't even work in France, so I've never taken it ...

Last one before home I think

... dinner theater thing going on; it was really cool. After lunch, we went to the Buzz Lightyear ride and it was so fun. You have a gun and have to shoot things. I was with Leah and neither of us had been on it before, it was really fun. I found out that you could spin your car around in a circle so I tried it out a few times. I don't think Leah appreciated that. Haha Then came Peter Pan I think. It was pretty fun too. You got to fly around and whatever. The Haunted Mansion ...

Thanksgiving and then some

... around 11ish and then went to bed. Sunday: I woke up early again because my second Thanksgiving was at noon thirty. I had way too much wine the night before and woke up with a horrible headache. I was so nervous it was going to ruin my day. But I got ready and took the tram to the end of the line like usual. Then I found out that the bus I needed to take left either at 11:53 or 1:13. So it looked like I was going to show up a bit early. Keep in mind that in France you show up late ...

Keycamp's Revenge

Actually we were at a place called St Jean de Monts, and we stayed in a tent, kitted out by Keycamp. It was kind of fun, if you don't mind endless late night music for the club 18-25 campers.

More to follow.

Weekend in Nantes

This weekend, we didn't have any travel plans, so we just hung around Nantes for the weekend. Jen and I planned to walk around and visit the cathedral again (and take better pictures now that we know better how to use the flashes on our cameras), go shopping, visit the market, and do other fun stuff around Nantes. The weather report predicted a storm, but it was beautiful and clear when I left the house, so I was optimistic. Unfortunately, the storm came after all about ...

Things I miss about Texas/the U.S.A.

Besides the obvious, of course - family and friends. 1. Dr. Pepper 2. Warm weather and sunshine 3. Large glasses (with ice cubes in them!) 4. Iced tea 5. Sweet tea 6. Mexican food 7. Sales tax that is not in the 20% neighborhood 8. Shower curtains 9. Laws about picking up your dog's mess off the street 10. Central air and heating (the first two days I was here it was air, now it's heating) that are turned on when you become uncomfortable with the ...

FC Nantes-Atlantique vs. Olympique-Marseilles

IES subsidized tickets for us to go to a football (soccer) match here in Nantes, which turned out to be really exciting! We got food at one of the many little food stands outside the stadium beforehand, and it being a festive sporting atmosphere, I opted for a hot dog with fries, which turned out to be a hot dog that came with the fries on top. It was still pretty good, though. I also got a Nantes t-shirt and "Allez, Nantes" scarf to wear for the game. It turned ...
