As the wide fields of grain gave way to vineyards we knew we were on the right track heading for Cognac. Midday temperature of 27 degrees, clear blue sky and no wind. We had almost 50 miles to cover on Sunday, so we left early once again as the sun was gathering its strength for another hot, sunny, cloudless day.

This time there was no wind whatsoever, so the motor stayed on all day. We did get the sails out, but all the wind we were seeing was apparent, i.e. generated by our own movement.
