A Little bit of North Africa

From Oct. 13 until Nov. 8 we we toured Tunisia and Morocco. The weather, except for the first 3 days in Tunisia when we had showers, was great, especially in Morocco. Autumn is definitely the time to travel to these wonderful countries.
We began our tour in the Tunis area, visiting Carthage...which isn't much for ruins, the American War cemetery, and quaint, blue-and-white Sidi Bou Said which we visited both at the ...

Optional Tour Extension to Dougga

... Capitol and Forum and the sprawling layout of this huge city. It is considered the best preserved Roman city in all of North Africa. We spend several hours wandering through the site, then have lunch and begin the drive back to Tunis.

Along the way back we stop briefly at the War Cemetery for English lads who died in the Second World War. Heartbreaking to see their ages, and the ...

Free Day in Tunis

We say goodbye to one tour member this morning. At 10am several of us go with the guide into the medina again. Two of us break away to visit a local hammam. This is an experience more like the one in Morocco, with hard skin scraping and back cracking.

I shop for birthday gifts for one of our tour members, then return to the hotel to get awards and tips organized. The party begins at six ...

So we missed the noon deadline to enter the courtyard and peer into the Mosque itself, but now the Imam is giving the Friday sermon and the doors are wide open, and even though we cannot take photos we are ...

Haggling in Tunisia

It's funny to haggle with the Tunisians in their markets, but Tunis disappointed me a little... it's dirty, have an strange smell like a mixture of spices and sweat... there just a few places to visit and they are so careless with their highlights... but after that we visited Sidi Busaid, I recommend this place instead of Tunis because of his streets and views

Politika again

... pulled me away saying we had to go... telling me after the couple were from the police. Live and learn. The next morning, shortly after I had left, the police comissioner came to ask if there was a Canadian living at the apartment of my friend. Fun, fun and also, I discovered the website of CIPUF (carrefour international de la presse universitaire francophone) is now censored in Tunisia. You have to give it to them... they're quick on censorphip. I ...

Beautiful Beach

We've been in Tabarka for the past couple of days and tomorrow we head South to Le Kef. From there we'll be exploring the kasbah and local surroundings in Le Kef and taking a day to travel and see the ruins in Dougga. It's going to be a bit tricky, the louages don't travel to these places but near them and we sure don't want to be hauling heavy rucks around the ruins. After Dougga we'd like to check out Maktar, more ruins, before heading to Kerouain.
Tabarka has been good. I'm burned again ...
