Firenze - A shopping mecca

So Hotel Dali... In LP book. Fairly ****. Room smells strongly of vinegar. Toilet makes terrible strangling noise when flushed, shower drain clogs up and water builds/over flows. Florence is very nice. Hear the occassional American accent, but mostly Italian people running around. Not as challenging as Spain or France because most people speak English here in Firenze. Shopping is great here. Lots and lots of stores. Endless streets of leather goods. Everything I like is expensive. Of course!!...

Round and Round

I knew there would be issues. Other than cycling or having the time to walk, there is no better way to travel through Tuscany -- as with any countryside -- than by car. Plane? Worthless. Train? A little better than plane, but still, it's best to be under your own power and guidance. Still, there are moments when driving a car in a foreign country for the first time can prove somewhat problematic. Case in point: Florence. Firenze, if you're nasty. The capital of the Renaissance. Ground zero fo...

Firenze: heart of the Renaissance

Okay, this one has to be super-brief, because I have reservations at the Brancacci Chapel in less than half an hour, but I did want to let everyone know I'm still alive. I've been dying to get online -- much to share! -- but I'm sightseeing all day, and in the evenings I've opted to practice my Italian over dinner/drinks/whatever, rather than sit in a musty internet cafe... (Can ya blame me?) I'm delighted to say that I'm actually capable of carrying on an entire conversation in Italian! Okay...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hotel Dali Florence

Super affordable when you have a car

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were very pleased with the Hotel Dali. The reviews are a true reflection on how nice the staff is at this hotel. They went above and beyond our expectations. The city center is not that big in Florence and everthing is within walking distace from the hotel. The hotel room is basic and you may opt to share a bathroom, but it is excellent value for the money. Especially if you have a car. It is 25 euros to park in Florence, so if you factor that in to the price of the hotel, you are getting the room for a steal. Just make sure you arrive before 7:30 pm as that is when the parkade closes.

Also, give yourself enough time to find the hotel if you are going by car. (We got lost for two hours.) Being from North America, we found the larger cities in Europe difficult to navigate. The owner at Hotel Dali is very accomodating for letting you leave the car there even after you check out providing he has room available.

Very basic, but OK for the money

First, the good points: a good location close to Duomo, parking , friendly owner, not expensive- 75 Euro double room without breakfast.

BUT: Not very clean, old and ragged furniture, I wouldn't put my clothes in that closet. In some of the rooms the shower has no border so water can spill on the floor all around. The chair was literally falling appart. We could hear the conversations at reception. Also, there was a problem with parking. We checked out at Saturday morning, and the owner told us we could leave our car till noon, because later they would close the exit. So we had to look for parking, and at that area it is 25 Euro per day.

I didn't read the reviews before the trip, but if I did, I would be dissappointed. I wouldn't come back. I would prefer to pay more and stay in a true hotel.

Great Hotel, Great Staff, Great Location

Hotel Dali is a find in Florence! It's inexpensive, in a great location and the family that runs it is so nice and helpful! What more can I say?

Great Hotel!!!

My husband and I stayed here the first week of August 2004 and we loved the hotel. It was the perfect location, we walked everywhere.

The owner was fabulous! He was so helpful and nice, he truly made our stay the best it could be. He had great suggestions on where to eat (ie, Il Latini, which was featured on HGTV and the best meal we had while in Europe). He and the other staff members were fabulous.

We had a room without a bath which was not a problem, the bathroom down the hallway was never occupied when we needed to use it and it was spotlessly clean!

My only complaint (which I feel guilty mentioning because we enjoyed our stay so much) was that there was no air conditioning, but there is not air conditioning ANYWHERE in Florence! I would suggest visiting Florence in the Spring or late Fall when it's not so hot and staying at this hotel. It was fabulous!

A nice hotel and staff

Hotel Dali was very clean however we booked the room with the private bath and it was literally right next to the reception. If I could hear them, they could probably hear us...Our bathroom was on the small side. There is no air-conditioning only a ceiling fan. I thought this would be fine however it is so hot in Italy during the summer months that it wasn't enough. Our window was on the street and therefore we had to keep it closed because of all the noisy scooter and pedestrian traffic. The hotel is in the heart of it all. The owners were very kind and helpful. If you want to be close to all the attractions and don't mind the lack of air conditioning, definitely stay here. You won't be disappointed!

Tranquil Hotel Dali

from TrueBlueTraveler
We stayed at Hotel Dali in June 2004 and were delighted with our room and the assistance offered by the staff. We were on the courtyard side which I would highly recommend - typical florentine shutters open to the most tranquil setting where you will see birds fly by. The hotel staff, on request, kindly reserved our tickets to the Uffizi and the Academia galleries before we arrived which saved valuable time. There is also a lift which every weary traveller welcomes. For its category, it is excellent value in a great location - walking distance to railway station, Duomo, all of the galleries, piazzas and the Arno!

Dali an excellent value

The Hotel Dali is in an excellent location right near the Duomo. Marco was very helpful with making the reservations for some of the more popular museums which saved us a lot of time! There is an "English Pub" right across the street and we had considerable noise from it with the windows open. There is a ceiling fan, so after the first night we had the windows closed and the double panes kept most of the noise out. The mosquitos in Florece ARE killer... Hotel Dali is a an excellent value for the location and extremely clean. We took the shared bath option and never had to wait for either of the bathrooms. I do not know what the noise level on the courtyard side rooms was like but in the summer when you need the windows open you might want to request a room on that side.

Great place to stay in Florence

For the budget conscious... you can not beat the Hotel Dali in Florence. The rooms are VERY clean and the location is just a few blocks from the Duomo. The best part... the owners are fabulous people. Incredibly helpful. I highly recommend this little hotel.

Perfect Florence

Hotel Dali was a lovely and extremely affordable pensione in the heart of Florence. Marco was extremely helpful with everything, he even spent his time helping us plan our excursion to Cinque Terre. They provide wake-iup calls and everything was extremely clean. It was a great experience. I must warn you to beware the mosquitoes in Florence, they're not just at Hotel Dali, they're everywhere and they are out to get you!!

Great Location

My 2 adult children and I stayed at the Hotel Dali for 3 nights, and the location was wonderful, as was the service provided by Marco, the owner. The triple room with bath was really large by European standards, but the bathroom was really small. It was funished nicely, but rather sparce. It was very clean. It did not have a TV, which was a bit of a disappointment for my son who likes to keep up with sports on ESPN and CSPAN. Our room was next to the reception area, so we could hear when someone buzzed to get in (it wasn´t a problem), otherwise our room was very quite. The Hotel Dali is a budget hotel, only 95 Euro for a triple room with private bath, so with that in mind it was really a great place to stay.
