... is right next to the ferry jetty. We knew that we could catch a bus straight through to Ipoh but had no clear details.

Having arrived at the bus station, we were immediately absorbed into the whirling madness which is common in bus stations throughout the world (and is probably the same in UK but we can understand some of the signs back home). The universally found ‘helpful’ man indicated a nearby ticket counter where we were rushed into buying ...
Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia jenandtony... and maneating! We were visitors to Aziz, his wife and his little boy Azam, and stayed in wooden chalets in their garden. Food was typical Malay food, and on our final night on the island we took part in a traditional Malay meal, wearing Sarongs, sitting on the floor and eating with our hands.
In the day we wandered around a village on a neighbouring island, and trekked in incredible heat up ...
Kota Bharu, Perak, Malaysia elinebouckaert... relaxing, and lovely and hot. It was like having a bath; a nice change from all the showers we've endured. After about 5.30pm we decided it was time to leave. As we were leaving it was starting to rain ... Once we had finished in the changing rooms we went outside to see that the little trickles of rain had turned into a beast of a thunderstorm. Tom and I weren't sure what time the last bus was leaving Sunway City, so we only decided to wait around for a little bit. Tom had his ...
Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia cereal42... boxing? "America bad, England good", before giving us the thumps up. Ha. I wonder what would have happened if we were from America, a little debate, mini argument may have ensued. Ah well. On arriving at Kuala Kangsar, a weird skinny small 2 toothed Malaysian man started following us. We circled the bus station a few times, for about 5minutes, trying to get rid of him. He was getting really close to us, so I put my hands in my pockets and swung my shoulder bag to my ...
Taiping, Perak, Malaysia cereal42... worst of all I felt unsafe after all the men I had encountered that night. A knock on my door and its Gobi again - this time with air freshener and an absolutely filthy blanket and towel, and this time I had to physically shut the door in his face to make him go away... first thing tommorrow I move. Exhausted from my day I finally fell asleep wrapped in my sleeping bag liner, lying upside down on my mattress (my head away from the walls) and using my scarf as a pillow. What a bloody day!
Tanah Rata, Malaysia becpowellAway from Melaka we took a bus to Kuala Lumpur and then straight for Ipoh. We were welcomed with huge arms by Soh, Amanda's nanny from when she was young, living in Malaysia. We arrived late in the afternoon, and had a nap before dinner which was prepared by Soh for us, since the rains began pouring down. Delicious and simple, which was nice because my stomach was not feeling its best. A rough first night followed. I got a sore throat, and we left ...
Ipoh, Malaysia tomandamanda... of the hillsides and also by ever more white plastic plant protection tarps that look, well, a bit like giant pieces of litter. Once again, it's hard to get too upset at over development especially when your visiting there is part of the problem, but while we still would recommend a visit to this region that still has a lot of beauty and some charm, it's obvious that it used to be prettier and will probably be less so in the upcoming years.
Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia jenandjeffmilum... hearing anybody talk about United or see a shirt anywhere. Needless to say we were estactic with the result and the look on the scotch mans face. Mike went straight to bed after the game and remained there till (He is still in bed at 1.15 pm) now. he is not feeling to good at the moment and actually said he thought he had SARS yesterday. i just think the combination of not sleeping ,not drinking beer for three nights ...
