Half way between the travel we went to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
It is on a massive lean to the side.
We were there for like 2 hours.
We had a little picnic on the nice green grass.

... last here the tower was being supported by large wire cables anchored into the ground, however now the cables are gone and the tower is supporting itself. Some quick facts about the tower; built in 1173, is 58.36m high, weighs 14.453 tonnes and has lean of 5.5 degrees which is equivalent to 4.5m off centre.

The hostel seemed ok when we checked in. After we found the bathroom... There was only one bathroom that we could find, and that was 2 flights of stairs above our room. ... the Tower and enjoyed a delicious gelato. Most of the shops were selling leather goods, souvenirs or Tuscan deli foods. We hit the road just after 5pm and carried on to find our apartment near Volterra just after 6pm. As we drove through the dry but spectacular Tuscan countryside Sam said "hey this kind of reminds me of Taihape!" And then Ben piped up "hey yeah it does too!" It was lovely to walk into the apartment to find fresh local apricots and plums ...
