Soporific Sopot

... cold now from being out of the sun. As we get closer to town, we pass a man selling smoked barbequed cheese. It is delicious. What a treat. We thought at first that it was covered in something but it is nothing but the cheese. It is so fresh that it squeaks when we chew it.

Back to the hotel to get our jackets before venturing out for dinner and an evening promenade. What a lovely easy place.

Deliciously Decadent Drink

They bring a spoon along with it so that you can finish it to the bottom of the glass. Yum!

Yesterday we are walking up the square in Sopot, Poland and I notice people sitting in a café with cups of what looks like ...

Internationally Invisible

... take an empty table in the crowd and press of people. There are only a few empty tables left and the waitresses are moving around taking orders. They pass by our table and do not stop to see if we want anything. After a few minutes, we go ask for a menu in English. We sit longer without anyone coming for an order. The table next to us has a new customer sit downs. The ...

Gdansk Revisited

... The top floor had some paintings that were enjoyable. The next floors had furniture from the period including some wonderful old ceramic tile stoves from floor to ceiling. We even got into the kitchen. Usually you don’t get to see the kitchen.

Back on track to go get baked potatoes. I had a Mexican and hubby had a cheese. They were quite tasty. I put it back thinking she needed to scan it like at the other place and she pushed it back again and gave me some kind of orders in Croation.

I put my money on the change dish and all I could make out from granny was "plastiksaku." 3 Days in Gdansk

... not going to give us much in the way of entertainment we moved on as soon as we had finished our drinks. We then went on a fruitless search for 2 recommended bars, one of which the Flying Dutchman was apparently sited under the LOT shopping centre, after doing a few circuits we concluded the the Dutchman had flown to pastures new. The other more disappointing was a jazz/pool club that sounded really good, when we located the street we saw no evidence of Jazz or Pool. Getting ...

During the bus drive back to the ship, we passed the Solidarity Monument, the memorial
to the 44 dock workers who died in the workers riot against the Russian
communist regime. We also passed the home of Lech Wolinska (I don't know how to spell his name) He was the dock ...

Arrival in Gdansk

... in the restaurant at our hotel. I had wild boar with beets and pears. Jill had a surprise. We still don't know what it was except it came with sauerkraut. Maybe more tomorrow. Jill says we "Ain't" doing this every nite, it takes too long. Our computer is also slow as a slug with uploading pics. Don't know if our next place will have internet or not, but if so, I'll give it a try again. Jill didn't really let me out of her sight, she knows how directionally challenged I am. Later...........

Beers on the Baltic

The next stop on our Easter trip was a part of Poland I'd been hoping to visit ever since I arrived in the country, but one I thought I may not see due to its distance from Opole. The tri-city, made up of the famous city of Gdansk (formerly Danzig), the beach resort of Sopot and the port of Gdynia was a further three and a half hours north of Torun, and we arrived soon after midday following a train ride through more of Poland's flat countryside and dense forests. After some confusion ...
