... of of others-very popular place. Went briefly up to the Castle on the funicular after crossing the pretty bridge that crosses the Neckar River. Back to the ship . 1st August- Out of Germany and into France to visit Strasbourg. Did an hour canal cruise as the old town is on a series of canals. It was like Paris meets Amsterdam. Very pretty. In town looked at the pink granite Cathedral and it's amazing astronomical clock. ...

Left Cergy for Strasbourg. Stopped at Compeigne to see the train lines where the Armistace was signed. Arrived in Strasbourg late afternoon. Our room overlooked the canal. We went for a walk around the town and to the cathedral. We stopped for a few wines in cathedral square before heading to a traditional Alsace restaurant. ... on the opposite river bank. I would love to have taken a tour of it. It was interesting to note that in its shadow, on the riverbank was a collection of small tents of what I assume was a homeless encampment. Quite a contrast and a good metaphor for the troubles of the European Union!

We also saw lots of storks perching on roofs as we left town and later saw many in a field, on church roofs and a hilarious ...

... cathedral just as it was getting dark, in time to watch the spectacular illumination on the west front, similar but even more impressive that the illuminations on old buildings that we viewed in Beaune. All the decorative detail was outlined in coloured lights and images in 3D moved across the huge structure.

Then we made our way through the little streets and across the bridge to our lovely 4 star hotel in 4 star (or maybe even 5) Strasbourg.
