We set out for the Swiss Alps this morning, sad to say goodbye to Italy but looking forward to free bathrooms at rest stops that actually have toilet seats as well. The view as we ascended in the cable car was spectacular – we floated upward above the green meadows, listening to the occasional sound of cowbells tinkling, while the snow-covered Alps rose majestically as a backdrop behind us. Grindelwald is in a beautiful location, and the higher we went, the more the mountains rose up to meet us.

After a week of great rides (over 500 miles) through the Black Forest in Deutschland / Schwarzwald (German for Black Forest), we rode 5 hours on Saturday, mostly in light rain, on the Autoban. ... way back down we had to take a detour because of a shooting range, and got poured on! But it was all in good fun and thankfully we didn't have to take transit back down to our campsite. Instead our nice warm RV was waiting for us at the bottom of the mountainside. Drove that back to the campsite, had a swim/shower, Clay got to BBQ our dinner, and now we are computing and resting up for tomorrow.
