... came up. We decided to have lunch there and both Val and I had a nice bowl of vegetable soup. Val had hot chocolate as well - the Italian hot chocolate is so thick you can almost stand up your spoon in it! Due to the wether, we decided against going on to the next hut and instead returned to the Albergo Falzarego via a different route. When we arrived, we went up the gondola to the Rifugio Lagazuoi, which is at 2750 meters. We were to stay there that night, so ...

We stopped at the Rifugio Lavaredo briefly and continued on to the Rifugio Locatelli, which was a very busy hut. Here I had a beer and Val had a mineral water. We went for a ride in the afternoon - riding west from Corvara over the Passo Gardena which connects Corvara in the Val Badia with Sëlva in the Val Gardena on the west side. It has an elevation of 2,136 m above sea level. We then went south over Passo Sella between the provinces of Trentino and South Tyrol in Italy. It ...

This morning we wandered around the streets of Lienz - a medieval town in the Austrian state of Tyrol. We saw buildings dating from the 1200's. We then took the bike up to the Großglockner Alpine Pass in Austria. The weather was fine and sunny until we reached Franz-Josef Höhe where it cooled down to 3.4 degrees C, and once we reached the pass itself, it was 0.9 degrees C. There was fog ...

... slippery limestone downhill paths we made our way back to our "hut" for a gourmet dinner of sausages and potatoes, washed down by quantities of local red wine and followed up by delicious apple strudel for dessert. A couple next to us was playing a game that was etched into their table in the restaurant. It appeared to be "Nine Men's Morris" (found it on the internet), although that's not what they called it. After dinner we all turned in because we were tired. ...
