A 4:30 start had us pack our final few things and then follow the coast line to the airport as the sun rose over the ocean. Not many beach goers at this hour but we did see one or two people out, believe it or not. There was a dog laying on the pavement sound asleep. Probably found it cooler there although he/she does live dangerously I must say. After a long wait in what didn't seem like a very long line-up, we checked in at Lamezia ...

We visited Zia Giaconda this morning and ended up staying for lunch. She had puréed tomatoes, made meatballs and ordered up some fresh bread in the hopes that we would stay. She said if I helped her, we could have pasta with meatballs and fresh tomato salad so I donned the apron she made me put on and did as I was told! ... br> The susumedi turned out very close to what I remember and are in fact even better! My aunt tossed them in a mixture of boiled sugar and water and I had a corner of one while they were still warm. This was a throwback in time, much like so many other things have been on this trip.
Tonight was the adult cousins night out, joined by two other couples who are close friends of Antonio and Fabrizio respectively. On the way to the restaurant in Catanzaro, which is about ...

... to be a very popular spot lined with many beaches (and people). We had Alberto's GPS, which he reset to speak in English so a lovely deep voice with a British accent guided us down the coast to a town named Soverato, where we intended to stop for lunch, but it was so busy that parking was impossible and we drove on for a short bit where we finally found somewhere else to eat (Jack's Pizzeria or something like that). We were the only ones there and the ...
