    ICE is nice!

    The German train system is on strike until Monday. That is all BUT the ICE (intercity express) trains. So we did catch our 6:45 AM train from Brussels to Frankfurt. It was a little eerie to see all the trains parked. There were a few running but in most of the stations, like Koln and Bonn, we were the only train.

    On the way to pick up the rental car we had this great Iranian cab ...

    ... all around the area. David and I took many pictures. In some areas they had photographs of the destruction that took place in WWII. The photos showed the before and after reconstruction. Visited two Catholic churches that had been reconstructed as they once were. The architecture shows the influence of Dutch.
    Our time is up and we must return to the airport.

    ... don't know they are no longer living in the 1800s. There were hardly any tourists, no English speakers other than our guesthouse owner, and we had the most relaxing, fun time walking through the beautiful, green landscape of the village, while we smiled and said "boona" (hello) to the kind locals.

    Recent increase price of airfare to Europe prevents many people from traveling. That is understandable. As a member of frequent flyer from United, I was able to redeem the miles to Central Europe with Lufthansa. Obviously, it saved me more cash! I check-in before but so many empty seats at the back rear of the plane so have a row all by myself. Odd considering the peak of summer ...
