... cans are regularly emptied. Planted along the streets here are tangelo trees, a type of orange. They are covered in fruit and it is used to make marmalade. It's very green in Athens, many parks with carob, eucalyptus, oleander and of course olive trees. Interspersed with the trees are usually ruins of some sort. Every new excavation turns up something, and they make a museum out of it. Wonder how anything gets built?

... something. I'd kind of like to do their visit. The President of Romania got the full show. The soldiers were in thetraditional dress uniforms, and each branch also had a squad or so in modernuniforms, formed up for inspection.
Oh well, watching it all was fun, and after a few minutes, Iwent back about my plan for the day, as I'm sure the esteemed President ofRomania did too.
So, is any dignitary visiting Rome next week?
... hotel in Cairo. We then went on a dinner cruise on the Nile River. The buffet dinner and belly dancing were cool. But I was feeling far to sick with this never ending cold to appreciate it that much. After this we went off to bed, to be woken at 4am to the local Mosque prayer for 10 or so minutes. It was so loud, it sounded like speakers in the room. Egypt is a major culture change to anywhere else we have been. Cairo has ...
Athens, Attica, Greece stevencranston... the city. I went to the Parliament and saw the changing of the guards, the presidents house where he must have been arriving or leaving as the military band was playing and there were guards all over the place, the National Gardens, the Parthenon and all the famous sites of Greece. By the end of the day I was exhausted as I had walked everywhere instead of taking the subway. Saturday we started bright and early and headed to the open air markets. This place was ...
Athens, Attica, Greece ncrjs... got back and chilled last night, watching the sunset and lounging. We left our awesome hotel (pics coming from Jennifer) and I wrote this on the ferry on the way to Athens. I think I am annoying the french guy next to me because I can't sit still when I listen to my ipod and write, but thats fine because I am sick of hearing him rant on his celly. My feet are sore and my ankle is double-stuffed. I will be glad to be home. Talk with all of you sooner than later. !!!, Anne

For once my planning has come in handy because while others comb the streets looking for a bed I have a nice cushy bed for the night! Well I have a tour to Delphi tomorrow, and now I'm off to see the area then early to bed. Hope everyone is doing well and I will try and post again soon.
Athens, Attica, Greece cora_explorerI think the last time I wrote I think we were in Athens and the blog was about northern Greece. We were in Athens for 3 nights and there is not much to the city other than the Acropolis. The Acropolis was cool to see but not as good as I thought it would be mainly because there are so many tourists up there and the Parthenon is covered in ...
Athens, Greece melvic... emergency number. The first hospital's emergency room was closed so Athena, Dean, and I went to another hospital. It was quick and efficient; the bite was cleaned and I was given a shot and a prescription. Luckily the bite was not deep and I was reassured that the dog did not transmit rabies. By this time, it was about 5:30 am, most of the pharmacies are closed. Somehow, it seems to be my destiny to visit the doctor or a hospital during my travels.
Athens, Greece sojourner... Ottoman Empire as a magazine to store munitions, when the Venetians bombed the Parthenon in 1687, a huge explosion did extensive damage to the building. In addition, Lord Elgin of Britain stole many important parts of the building and sold them to the British Museum where they remain today. I found the museum of the Acropolis to be its most interesting part. Many of the original artifacts are located here and you get a real idea of their size ...
