Driving into Porto we couldn't believe anyone would like this place. Very industrial port city and all we saw coming in was smog. We were warned the traffic would be a nightmare so stayed on the freeway as much as possible to get into the main area. of course arrived at 5.30 so timed it well for peak hour and stayed a 20 min walk into The centre. Beautiful tiled buildings, heaps of tourists, it is known as a ...

... lunch - a Francesinha. The most glorious sandwich the world has ever known. There are 4 different meats on toasted bread, covered in slightly melting cheese, doused in gravy, surrounded by fries, and with an egg sitting coyly on top. ... rings, necklaces, little boxes, all made from ceramic tile and all hand painted. Joe bought me a beautiful ring. There were market stalls set up along the river and we browsed at the wares as we wandered along. After crossing the bridge to the other side we went into the Porto Wine festival which had been set up along the river bank. We tasted some beautiful port wines and sat in the sun. After ...

... a beautiful restaurant and tapas bar. Definitely worth the bus ride.

Caught the bus back to the bridge to see if I could get a cruise down the river to the valley. But nope not till friday, I thought it would be easier to find a cruise but there's only one kiosk on the river front. I think I'll regret not going up river but at this point there's not enough time!

Seems the bus doesn't go to Coimbra from here which seems weird so I'm skipping ...
