Porto is one of those towns you know you're going to love the minute you arrive. I don't think Mum was so sure though on seeing the steep hill the town is perched on with the Duoro River below. We had a beautiful hotel although while trying to be ultra modern it was also ultra dark inside! They must have had a very low power bill! We woke every morning to heavy fog over the river, which later quickly burned off. Make sure you include a river cruise while in Porto, I suggest at the end of your stay. It was a relaxing journey that helped me to reflect on my impressions of the city, which is certainly one of contrasts.
