Historical Traveler Reviews of Hotel Costa Rica Buenos Aires
Che fortuna!
from DKnows

Sean.
A very friendly, safe, and relatively inexpensive place to stay
from nicsim
I would highly recommend this small boutique hotel to anyone who doesn't want to pay an exorbitant rate for one of the fancier hotels nor wants to stay in a grimy hostel or hotel. I happened upon this hotel after spending my first night in a rather run-down hostel full of young partier types. I felt very fortunate to find this little gem in such a great neighborhood. I wound up staying here on and off for 7 nights, in between trips to other parts of Argentina. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, which was especially important given that I was traveling alone. It was also very clean and comfortable. The top floor gets quite hot in the summer so, unless they have air conditioning by then, I would recommend a room on the first or second floors. And definitely check out the nice deck!
Awesome!

Hotel Costa Rica was awesome! Great friendly and helpful staff (thanks Ian!) and a perfect location in Palermo. The hotel is clean and nice with a cool bar and lobby. The rooms and beds are great, and so is the price! Definitely stay here if you want to be in Palermo where all the action is!
Sean.
This is the place to stay!

This is an absolutely charming little hotel to stay if you`re looking for an area with cool desing, bars and clubs. Hotel Costa Rica is just the best! Cool design, personal and friendly and the staff sure knows all about the good restaurants and bars to visit in the neighbourhood. They made our stay in Buenos Aires an excellent experience.
Chill out in style without breaking the bank!

Out to find a decent accommodation in Palermo Viejo, Buenos Aires - stylish AND on a reasonable budget (around EUR 35/day)? Look no further!
As others before, we stumbled on Hotel Costa Rica by walking around the neighbourhood, checking out the location of several B&Bs and hostels recommended on the internet. Just three blocks from all the action in Palermo Viejo, it nestles in a relatively quiet street in a building with great character, typical for the style and grandeur of old that we found all over Bs As. After consulting its website and found the prices not to be nearly as high as we expected, we booked without even having seen a single room.
Upon arrival we were first set up in a room with a private bathroom, but upon finding out that the larger shared bathrooms were almost always unoccupied and immaculately clean, owner Yann gave us a choice of rooms to move to instead (even though we booked with a private bathroom and these are more expensive). As we heard from other guests, Yann will lead you around and pick any available room you like. He´ll even have beds separated into twins or vice versa. The beds and bedding, by the way, are top notch - comparable to some high end places I have stayed in on business trips.
Although there´s no airconditioning (yet), all rooms are equipped with fairly massive oscillating fans, which were enough to ensure pleasant nights for me. However, when day temperatures soar above 40 celsius (mainly in Jan/Feb), they might not be cooling enough for those accustomed to airconditioned dwellings. I therefore recommend a room on one of the middle floors during high summer, at least until Yann will find the funds to execute all his plans for the hotel, including aircon...
The common spaces of the hotel are furnished with modern art and a mix of antique and modern(istic) furniture - the roof terrace with big parasols and comfortable sofas is an excellent spot to have your siesta after a busy day shopping and exploring the city (or in preparation for the city´s bustling nightlife!). Each morning the staff will welcome you downstairs with a smile and breakfast consisting of fresh espresso or cafe con leche, medialunas (croissants) and orange juice squeezed on the spot. Although not included in the price, at A$R 8 it is definitely worth it.
I can only agree with the previous reviews on the staff: they´re great! Yann is "tres branché" and will point you to all the best spots after finding out with a couple of questions what it is you´re after - be it handmade leather belts, polo caps or simple slippers, any sort of restaurant imagineable, discos or milongas (tango hotspots where the locals go) and will make a reservation for you. The rest of the staff is very helpful as well and, despite not mastering English as well as Yann, will try and aid you as much they can (thanks Sabina for explaining to us on the phone where to find El Obrero in the dodgy part of La Boca and telling us not to go on foot!).
In summary I can definitely recommend Hotel Costa Rica, it is a very welcoming place and great value for money. When arriving from abroad, don´t forget to ask the staff to book you a remis to bring you to the hotel - not only is it cheap and safe, we had lots of fun being driven around by Alejandro of Remis Milennium on our longer trips when he pointed out stuff most tourists miss...
Excellent!

We heard about this hotel by word of mouth. Lucky we did because we had a great stay at the Hotel Costa Rica.
While I enjoyed many things about our stay I'd have to say that I was most impressed with the Staff. They were extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. And no request was too big or to small - whether it was calling a cab or booking a reservation they were happy to do it right away.
I also liked the fact that the owner,Yann, was often around to make sure you were having a comfortable stay. Yann has extensive knowledge and connections in the Buenos Aires area and often set us up with reservations at great bars/restaurants.
In addition the Hotel was a fun place to hang out...not just a place to sleep at night. They've got a wonderful rooftop patio where you can sit outside and chat with friends. In addition the bar downstairs is very cozy and a great place to start off your evening in Buenos Aires.
In summary, I highly recommend the Hotel Costa Rica if you are looking for a hip, clean place to stay at a great value.
Lucky Find

We had just arrived in Buenos Aires with no reservations, struggling to find a place to sleep when we stumbled upon the newly opened Hotel Costa Rica. Because the hotel had only been open a few days there were vacancies, but I am sure that the hotel will soon be booked solid. The staff was super friendly, the beds are great and the price is right!
Basic yet Sheik in Buenos Aires' Hippiest District
from leighvillegas
Our group of American travelers in our early-30s stumbled upon the Hotel Costa Rica while searching the always-crowded Buenos Aires district of Palermo by foot. We lucked out! The Hotel Costa Rica had just opened the week before, and we were some of the first guests. The lobby and bar area were pristine, with funky modern art, fresh flowers, comfortable chairs, fresh fruit, a selection of cocktails, beers and wines, and above all, a super friendly, attentive staff that spoke English.
We all arrived on different days, left for 2-day excursions and returned at different days and times, yet the Hotel staff were always accommodating, storing our luggage as needed and making sure our rooms were ready when we returned.
The area where the Hotel is located is perfect for young professionals who want to be in walking distance to the best bars, restaurants and nightclubs in Buenos Aires, yet do not care to be stuck with the college students in overcrowded, dingy hostels found throughout Palermo. From Hotel Costa Rica, it is an easy taxi ride to anywhere in Buenos Aires, and Hotel staff can make those arrangements.
The prices at Hotel Costa Rica were extremely reasonable. Not the $8 per night hostels, Hotel Costa Rica's rooms cost around $30 or $40 per night but were completely worth it. Each room, whether a single or double, had a full size, very comfortable bed with clean white linens and the option to have a private bathroom. We had the choice of any of the Hotel's four floors, with the top floor including a large patio with modern furniture, perfect for a cocktail gathering at sunset.
Our top floor room, while extremely comfortable and clean, was a bit warm because the hotel does not have air conditioning, so we might recommend choosing a shaded room on one of the other floors, especially those with large windows to let in the breeze. But Hotel staff gave us a fan to use, which helped a lot.
The Hotel owner, Yann, was extremely helpful in suggesting good restaurants and nightlife. Overall, we had an excellent experience and look forward to returning!
Great Find!

Fantastic location, close to all the great restaurants and shops in Buenos Aire's coolest neighborhood....Palermo. Quiet tree-lined street....welcome silence after a hectic day in BA!
The property is a recently renovated old hotel , decorated simply with great contemporary taste: crisp white sheets, great pillows, interesting modern paintings...and clean as a whistle! Hotel is run by a super friendly staff that will help with restaurant reservations, directions, suggestions...whatever. Very relaxed, warm nice people who aim to please and help whenever possible.
There is a lovely rooftop terrace and a few other great common corners for lounging with a book or drink. Much of the hotel is built around a roof-less outdoor light well, so despite the narrow-ness of the building, it feels very airy.
The rooms are of varying sizes...and shared bathrooms have just been nicely renovated, so can be more apprealling actually than some of the private baths inside rooms. (Future renovations will change this...but my stay was in the first month after opening...and I didn't see every room, so....check on progress when you book...)
The rooms on the top floor off the terrace are great as are the larger rooms on the main floor. There is no air conditioning here (just big fans) so if heat bothers you, stay on the lower floors.
Great value! (particularly when compared to other Palermo hotels) With shared bath, $37 USD. Breakfast is not included, but is cheap and the coffee is good espresso and the croissants are fresh.
Other travellers I met there were also very pleased with their accomodations. Hopefully the hotel will post more photos on tripadvisor...they're just getting up and running....
Terrific experience!
Would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to friends.
