Panama! pics included

Hey all! first off I have added another link of pics on the update before this one since this entry is dedicated to Panama only so check it out. So here's the scoop with me medically, since that IS the reason I came down here. I arrived on Feb. 13th via plane and Greg met up with later that day after his 30 (no i'm not kidding, 30) hour bus ride. I met with the PC doctor as well as the specialist the following day. I was scheduled for a CAT scan the following day and in the meantime given ani...

Panama City arrival

Itīs 5:00. I have arrived at the hotel, checked into the room, and all is well. Flights were good, just the typical airport snafus, like in the Miami airport, having to go from D34 all the way to E10 to catch the train, and then being told to go all the way back to E1 to catch a bus because the trains were not functioning. The movie on the plane was Nights in Rodanth (Richard Gere). Glad we didnīt pay money to see that one in the theater. It was 37 degrees in Miami and when we arrived in Pana...

Panama City day 1

So the kick off of the Trip, a Friday night red eye flight from SFO to MIA (Miami, Florida) to PTY (Panama City, Panama) arriving early Saturday afternoon. Flight went fairly well, slightly delayed out of SF but had plenty of time to spare for my connecting flight in Miami. Unfortunately, an isle seat, which is nice, but can't lean into the corner and fall asleep. I guess there were some major bumps coming into PTY. What I found out later Panama City seems to have consistent thunder storms in...

Panamanian Dentist and the Canal in one day

... advanced my fellow Americans from the early 1900s really were. It's absolutely amazing! We watched a couple of super carriers pass through Miraflores Locks, explored the museum and called it a day, with a new respect and admiration of the Canal.

Tomorrow at 5:00am we're heading to a village in Kuna Yala. The people there sound fascinating and I'm looking forward to see the indigenous way of life.

Cigar under a Mango tree (Sophie)

... that night researching our options of next steps and spending time with other hostel goers. The next dayīs main highlight: Coconut and Cholocate ice cream. Evan: "mmmmmmmmmmmm... best ice cream ever.... French aritsans make it best, who knew?!" After our bellies and Evanīs soul were full it was Friday night and the hostel owns the bar located right below it, The Relic. We struck up a conversation with a man working at the hostel and one of ...

... on the couches until staff were available. There were already at least four others sleeping in the couches as well. I am glad I have ear plugs, best things ever. This hostel is three stories and capacity is 90 and they are full most days. The London ladys left because they didn't like the area. It is old and has a cool wood staircase with 15 foot ceilings and wood floors. It is located in San Felipe, old ...

Ancon Hill and the Miraflores Locks

... the movie and the museum. We lucked out with our timing because a cruise ship and a large container ship happened to be entering Miraflores at the time we arrived. The museum is interesting and modern but I expected more history and less scale models. The movie is 10 minutes long and educational and the theater is big and comfortable. They could easily show longer movies here, it's nice. We ...

Crusing Panama Canal

... A world of our own. We do have momentary reminders of the real world. The ship showed both of the Football Playoff Games on the room TVs and several of the lounges. It is nice to watch a game and have catered food and drinks. But that was over shortly and we were back to our own world of the world cruise. After dinner we when to the show, it was a British Comedian that performed magic. It was mostly funny, but all British Humor. I even was asked to help with the straight ...

... s only volcano. However, the town and area is experiencing a storm of the likes that they say only happens every 100 years. The river is bubbling at its seams and some bridges are closed. A few houses have slid and there was one death. So most of our anniversary was spent water logged going to dinner and reading in our room. We can tell the town is beautiful and is home to many, many American ...

Mini Havana in Panama

I got here on Thursday and have been here for 4 nights now. On Friday morning, I made the obligatory pilgrimage to the canal, of course! Luckily, we made it in time to see the last ship pass through the Miraflores Locks that morning. The process of lowering and raising the water levels and opening the locks took about 30 minutes. Also, I finally saw the Pacific Ocean again as I was on this side of the canal. I then went to the Summit Park a few km away and ...
