Retour civilisation

... as a night drive, and we startle a water buck, we hear some noises and see a leopard that has just broken the neck of a baby water buck (sad buts that the food chain for you). Anyway, turns out that we startled the water buck and whilst they legged it they ran staright into Tiggers trap.

Big Game

... camera flashes 2) Leg it Option 2 is the preferred one these days. However, in the daylight hours I found a new career - big game spotter - yep, 3 guides and Tommy saw the lions!! We were able to get to within a few feet of them, and watched them hunt some Impala. Now I'm no expert in hunting, however I think the lionesses (yep the women do the hunting in the Lion world) need some mangement consultancy......... "Look ...

... kms down stream, fortunately my British Canoe Union 1 Star came into force with the hippo and croc avoidance (one went under my canoe). We stopped briefly at a Lodge to get something, there was a rascist Rhodesian there, he was banging on about Enoch Powell, Rivers of Blood, blah, blah. The approach to water safety was interesting, it goes like this: 'Here is your boat, here is a life jacket, don't put it on but have it close by in case you fall in' Genius.

The zambian driving test (compulsory section) is as follows: 1) Exceed the seating capacity by at least 50% 2) Take a 30 mph corner at 60mph, whilst towing a trailer 3) Brake late for speed bumps, goats and children 4) Over use the horn the optional section is as follows: 1) Seat ...

Livingstone

Well the tour is over, the rugby bit anyway and we have all piled down to Livingstone to have some R&R; main thing here are the Victoria Falls which are quite spectacular and I got far wetter here than I did at the Iguazu Falls in south america. Some of the lads did a bungee jump off a bridge (111 metres) personally I did not fancy it. However, I ...

Proudest moment of my life

We broke camp and took the 5 hour bus trip back to capital lusaka, we are staying at a camp site outside lusaka and its freakin freezing at night. Fortunately I am in a chalet with Dylan, Taps and Trev - I was selected to have a bed due to my age!! I am coaching two schools Mylea and Chiesa, we have 3 days to get them ready for a torunament. The pitch at Mylea is a dust bowl and its quite hard being out ...

7 African Wives

... quite easy. The only major obstacle seems to be body odour, its quite over whelming!!! The african women seem to not have discovered female emancipation and do not strive for equality with men, they see their role to be a mother and home maker. I did try to explain to them about western society and the problems that us chaps have with the modern woman :-) Anyway, I can see a cup of tea coming my way

Caterpillars and brown ale

They do things differently in Lubumbashi. They stroll along colonnades, ride bicycles, read different newspapers, welcome visitors, speak Swahili, claim Kinshasa is another country, drink brown ale and eat fried caterpillars like they give you wings. And you can see the sky here. It ...
