Mein Flug von Nadi geht um 22 Uhr am Sonntag, 16. August 2009. Ich fliege nach L.A. und nach einem kurzen Zwischenhalt von dort nach San Francisco, wo ich Dödle in ihrer Unterkunft treffen werde. Da ich die Datumsgrenze überquere, werde ich einen Teil des 16. August gleich zweimal erleben - ein kleines Highlight für mich.

... parking garage because of the carrier strapped to the top. We encountered this same issue during our last trip in downtown Boston. You'd think we would have learned...so the next half hour or so involved me climbing on top of the car and handing items down to Kat and Wren for them to put in the car. Finally we were able to remove the carrier and park our car in the garage. Whew. Now we had officially arrived.

... marina, and Ghirardelli square. We found a good spot for lunch in a Mexican restaurant, upstairs away from the crowds. We were tempted in by the margaritas, and although the food was nothing special, it was nice to be comfortable at an outside table without the usual crowds of people.

... middle of it all. A few blocks from the Bridge, cable car up the road, the wildly steep undulating classic streets with glimpses of the Bay and bridges at every turn, Chinatown down the road and Fishermans wharf just there. Groovy bars all around us.
I could see Steve McQueen everywhere.
We unpacked and got on the first cable car we could downtown to Union Square. Hanging off the sides of the car doing selfies, drinking it all in. Just ...
... and prison wardens were on the commentary describing what life was like here, complete with all the sound effects of keys rattling, metal bars clanging, echoes, cries and groans. It was a really chilling and life-like tour - well worth doing.
