... was our GPS being programmed to not take toll-roads. So after almost an hour, we finally are able to get on the right highway and leave León. Then we drove for hours through the countryside, mountains, and winding roads past huge lakes. Once we reached the border for Portugal, we all had our passports out and cameras to take a picture of the welcome sign. If you blinked you could've missed the border. ... Chappell. There is over 1000 square meters of stained glass in the church. After visiting the cathedral we wind our way through the maze of streets on the bikes (oh so much easier than walking). Nothing like finding a shady spot in a plaza to have a cold drink and tapa in the late afternoon.
We made our way back to the hotel and chilled there for a bit. Eventually it was dinner time. Now instead of a normal dinner ...

They wanted me to stay longer, especially as they wanted me to try out a dish of rabbit, which was extremely fresh, as they owned a rabbit farm, they also wanted me to stay to meet more people and enjoy of the many things this village could offer, unfortunately as I had a schedule I couldn't stay as long as I wanted. ... discovered that it didn't open on Saturdays, what??? Poor Helen, she has now developed horrendous blisters on both heels and had been up for an hour in the night popping and dressing them. It is so unfair she wears the right gear and looks after her feet but is just so susceptible to blisters. We eventually set off together which was really nice. Helen had to wear her walking sandals rather than her boots but ...

... shop signs we have these days... not to mention the proliferation of road signs! Grrr...

The hotel is only about a two minute walk from the cathedral, so that is where we started. As much as anything, it was a good escape from the drizzle.

Unusually, we actually paid our money and went in, AND listened to the audio guide, which had a very clear explanation of how the cathedral was built using new building ...
