Castles at Rasnov, Bran then Sibiu

... by these is very difficult and the maps we have are very high level. I have a compass on my watch which helps. But, we still get lost. We ask for directions in a small town. The young girl speaks English very well and we get back on track.

Even along the main road are some fun experiences. We pass through Fagaras which has a, large, ornate Orthodox church (apparently completing construction of the exterior) which is sending the sermon over loudspeakers to the surrounding ...

Delightful city

Sibiu is a delightful city, small - about 250 000 people, but ready to make your staying one of the best in Romania.
The city, on its German name Hermannstadt, was founded in the 12 century and in 2007 was Cultural European Capital.
The Bruckenthal Palace in the Big Plaza, today an art museum and the Evangelic Cathedral are worth a 2-3 hour visit.
Also, climbing all the way up in the Council Tower , the 12 century gate of SIbiu, let us see the city from above.
Great place!

Do I have shit on my face?

... on my face, watching a foal cozy up to her mom's behind, but then mom's tail started to move. The baby was looking down and never saw it coming. One drop of poo, then several, and my poor foal had **** all over her face. Poor baby! Before then I thought the horses were sooooo pretty...

Our next stop was the Brancoveanu Monastery, the only monastery in Transylvania, which is rumored to have a role in major events ...

Medieval Heaven

... mills, homesteads and every other building you could imagine. You couldn't walk in the rooms, but you could peer inside where they had it decorated with old beds, tables, clothes and linens. The place was pretty empty and it was nice strolling the grounds to myself. The weather still is crazy hot and I kept ducking into the shade for a little bit here and there to cool down. After around 3 hours I still never saw everything, but I think I ...

... eyed. Some lady at the table beside me had a bag of popcorn and gave it to the kids and they ran off. Similia told me that there is a big campaign to not give money to beggars as it encourages their lifestyle (much like at home). However the difference between here and home is that these kids looked like they could use it, where as the ones at home have many social programs they can use. I am not too sure what kind of assistance these kids ...

... and a couple of days of people watching and looking at beautiful old buildings. I saw the cops arrest some gypsy kids who had attempted to snatch a tourist's purse. I met a crazy-ass American, ex military guy (a medic) from Detroit, Drew, who signed up so he could get a free education and did two years in Seoul where he actually ran the military hospital at the base. He was only 24. He volunteered to go to Iraq but oddly, they didn't ...

The Walk (Part II)

... Saxon friend had mention, but as we continued the path again became overgrown. We decided that we'd better head back to town to ask directions again, and alas, 20 minutes later we were at the same spot where we'd earlier stopped to eat. I saw a youngish looking dude on a tractor and flagged him down. I asked him if he spoke German, French, English or Italian. Apparently he only spoke Romanian, which made perfect sense considering our location. He was kind enough to deal with my few ...

... but mosaics. They were really impressive. We also watched the locals go up to the priest, get down on their knees and he blessed them. Well I think he blessed them, because it actually looked like they were giving him a head job !!! Lucky guy. But the best was yet to come. We had dinner, which was Silver Service, and cheap as well, then we retired for the night. Now I saw a load of CD's besides the owners PC. All there was was hard core porn !!!!! I wanted to check it out to ...

Adventures with Romanian Trains

Ok, changing trains worked ok. More rain again today, but the town was worth going to. It was pretty and the buildings actually reminded me a lot of the French Quarter in New Orleans. The trains were interesting though. Trains here are run on classes. There are 4 types of trains and the price of them is based on the # of stops that the train makes. The trains we were on today are the ...
