    ... The Older church is no longer used but well maintained. It has exposed original mosaic flooring in places and frescos cove parts of the walls,. Some of these are in fairly good condition. There is a large wooden cross on one wall with somewhere below it where the locals can light a candle. It turns out that this is the Baptistry of the Newer church.     ... people in at a time for a maximum of 15 minutes. The amazing thing about this artwork is that during the second world war the entire building was destroyed in a bombing, except for the one wall with the painting on. They have now rebuilt around it and created a high tech temperature controlled room to keep it safe from decay.

    ... the local Italian combo ticket (they're trying to encourage local tourism) I've got the days transport ( both trains, 1 hr each and both boats, 2 hrs each) for €15 rather than €40 if purchased separately. Good if it works.... Two hours up to Bellagio, almost the milk run but a beautiful day and lovely scenery, impressed by this place and don't see it as over touristy.
