    ... arrival in Saarbrucken we are treated to an awesome Greek theme lunch with cold beer followed by a gentle walk through the city center. The city lies on the banks of the River Saar which is quite picturesque with old barges and a nice esplanade. It was raining a little but not enough to dampen our spirits.

    ... overtaken by the Germans in 1940 as part of the French Armistice with Germany and later reclaimed by the American Army after an intense battle in 1944. It was an amazing experience to see and actually travel on the underground train that carried troops and ammunition throughout the fortress as well as see how the soldiers lived and gain some insight in what life must have been in like for the men during the war.

    Had breakfast at Hotel then went up to see Linda and say goodbye to Wolfgang. Jan then drove us into Saarbrucken for the day as he had to spend time with Linda making arrangements for the funeral. Walked around the lovely St Johann Market Place with pretty shops and restaurants and down along the river bank. Jan picked us up and back to our hotel.
