Hi everyone! Or should I say Konichiwa! Linus and I have made it to Japan and we love it! We've been here for two weeks and its been fun exploring this big city of Tokyo with over 35 million people! Despite the huge number in population, the city seems to be very organized, tidy and clean and the people very proper and polite. I'm amazed at how clean the city is despite it not having trash cans (we simply keep our ...

... Omikuji .. strips of paper stuck on a wall in shrines/temples. Visitors can pick one of them by making a small offering in the box – but the strip you pick can be as good as great fortunes or as bad as curses/bad luck.

... to quantify the experience but it was all very impressive and quite overwhelming. Ironically, as I am part Irish, I don't think alcohol gives me an Irish tan. The Japanese famously also turn red when they drink. With this in mind, Noriko's father probably assumed the Sake wasn't having as much of an affect on me as Tequila or Whiskey might. So he ordered a sweet potato based clear beverage known as - Shōchū - just for me. It was very smooth and reminded me of ...

... the terminal. Success! Anxious and wide eyed, we begin our adventure by navigating our way to our hostel. With insanely accurate yet basic instructions, we conquer the intimidating subway and train system with relative ease. Off to a good start! First meal choice - obviously has to be sushi. We are offered smoking or non smoking when we arrive and choose non, only to be seated but 5 ft away from 2 hanging plastic sheets with a massive gap in the middle. Not super effective, ...

... some one walked on it, it vibrated. I don't think the photos will be of any good. We went down and took some selfie shots with the hotel in the background. Just as we were finishing up, David, Leith and John returned from their day trip to Aomori (located on the tip of Honshu island before crossing over to Hokkaido) on the Gran Class seats on the shinkansen. Apparently, it was very nice and maybe some day for us.

We are off to Nagoya tomorrow morning.
