... evening was amazing - we went on an Intrepid tour (we had to get one in somewhere this year !) wine tasting and local food. This three hour tour started with local Venice history and a short walk then a trip across the Grand Canal standing up on a gondola called a Traghetto - two gondoliers punting a stand up taxi - then we hit the bars - 6 glasses of wine with 6 nibbles in each of local food - Helen and Donna turned their nose up at the ...

... telling us about the sights as we went along. One thing I noticed was that the drivers of the gondolas are very muscly as they are literally just paddling the boat full of people, no motors! We went to a lace demonstration in a lace school which is one of the few left in venice. The lady told us there used to be about 6000 lace makers in Venice but now there is only about 500. We got shown some pieces ...

      Nice meeting Eva in Venice

We set the alarm to wake at 8:15. It's so dark in the mornings and the hotel room has no noise. We get up and go out into light rain for the walking tour that starts at 9:00. It's cold today. Venice is basically built on timber under the water. Their are no private boats allowed in Venice and the police and ...

... to take to the streets of Venice again. Truly, it is a beautiful town, a little smelly at times but still beautiful. I did a spot of shopping before returning to the hotel to pack and prepare for the next league of my trip, Paris. At this point I have to say Kudos to the staff of Corte 1321. They knew I would be leaving early so they went to great pains to make sure I knew my way around the kitchen so I could have something to eat before I left. And thank god they did, but more on that ...

      Saying Goodbye to our ship

... Like everything on board the ship, it all worked beautifully and by 8.50am we were walking back towards the 'people mover' to Venice.

Our train didn't leave till 12.25pm so we put our bags into storage at the train station for a couple of hours while we went for a last walk in Venice. Izzy wanted her photo taken on the Rialto bridge. I am glad we got back to the train station earlier than planned as the queue for the ...
