... the mountains again. Quite a show.

After lunch we pushed on to Verona where we had front row seats to watch a production of Carmen in the outdoor Roman amphitheatre. The location was fabulous and it was so nice to see the old ruin being put to such a beautiful use unlike the roman amphitheatre in Rome. We say farewell to Milan with a taxi to the Central Railway Station which is huge, try to purchase tickets from carne machine but it won't accept my credit card, luckily a nice gypsy woman just happened to be looking over my shoulder and offered to help and we get our tickets. Grazie mille, but she doesn't want my thanks as she has just come out of hospital and needs some money. She still had the bandage on her arm! Feeling sorry for her ...

... castle is amazing...10 years ago it was a crumbling mess...the young folks that manage it have really restored it nicely and the falcons and owls on display are a nice touch.

We descended the castle, walked around Varenna and had a bottle of wine before dinner.
