Lower Cape, New Brunswick, Canada swissbear

September 28, 2009

After another gourmet breakfast at “Candle Inn the Window B&B“, we retraced our steps back to the New Brunswick border (approx 5 hours). Weather rainy and forecast not looking good. We stopped at the tourist centre and booked a B&B near the “Hopewell Rocks“ (renowned for low tide view of “flowerpot“ rock formations. It is always difficult entering a new province - unfamiliar with the geography, unsure about ...
Hopewell Cape, New Brunswick, Canada wendyandbrian... Boarded the train and almost immediately were called to the dining room. The obligatory game of scrabble and then I assembled the beds and we crawled in for a rockin’ and rollin’ night. Surely cramped quarters but it still beats overnight airline flights.

Funny how these compartments didn't seem so cramped when Barry & I made the trip from Moncton to Quebec City.

She was fine once we reached Fredericton.

After almost ten hours on the road we arrived at the Holiday Inn Express hotel at the outskirts of Moncton. “Outskirts” is a synonym for “boondocks” so after check-in we piled back into our vehicles and drove into town for dinner. Maverick’s was a pleasant enough restaurant (entrees about $28), the food was decent if seriously over priced, and we were too tired to care.
Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada andy_n... At least 16 coaches, headed by 2 engines. We were directed to the front of the train, where the comfprt class was located, getting 2 seats together. The train was very comfortable and modern. Departing dead on time at 18:45 we were off. This was the longest train journey we had both ever taken, just over 16 hours, so there was plenty of time for chat and sleep. I slept a bit on and off throught the night ...
Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada whernside... New Brunswick, in the Petitcodiac River valley, about (34 mi) from the Nova Scotia border and lies at the geographic center of the Maritime Provinces. The community has the nickname "Hub City" because of its central location and also because Moncton has historically been the railway and transportation hub for the Maritime Provinces. European settlement began in 1733 ...
Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada awos1244Spent the morning doing the tourist thing - went to an Acadian museum, visitors' centre, etc. The most eventful part of today was a short afternoon drive from Moncton to Hopewell Rocks, which is in (on? near?) the Bay of Fundy, the site of the highest tides in the world. It was actually quite a hike to get from the visitors' centre to the flowerpot rock formations, but definitely worth it to see ...
Hopewell Cape, New Brunswick, Canada dianaleemiller... and picked up the rental car without a problem.

We found out just a few days before going to Moncton that there was an annual seafood festival going on at the time of our visit - quelle bonne surprise! Spent most of the day shopping and walking around downtown Moncton (which is not very big). The 'festival' mostly consisted of cooking demonstrations/tastings at various points around the city, as well as ...

We've seen over 2% of the planet, been through some of the tough times, experienced the world cup in its hosting city and gotten through it all with a smile. Its been a blast, but we are ready to come home. Thanks to those who kept up with this log, and if you were able to live vicariously through mine and Mike's adventure - Good times! See you soon, Erin and Mike
