Fort-de-France, Région Martinique, Martinique jackpot... yourselves - it's an experience you shouldn't miss." Then we mentioned it to our friend Bill Diebels, Sr. from Juneau (via Florida). He said he'd like to join us for a week's worth of Carnival festivities. Bill got his ticket and now we were totally committed to the trip. As the bad weather lingered in Martinique, Bill was getting anxious (as were we) whether we'd make it in time for him to have a place to stow his gear. Bill kept a watchful eye on our Tracker to ...
Martinique, Martinique questmiller... were all allowed ashore and began to explore the town. As we walked along the shore front they were setting up food stalls and a large stage with musicians doing sound checks preparations for what we assumed would be the New Years Eve party. This was fantastic and Matt was especially keen to experience a New Years in another culture! We were anchored only 200 metres away and although we would probably be deaf in the morning because of the volume coming out of ...
Fort De France, Martinique bellavita... been temperamental with stinking hot one minute and pouring rain the next but Christmas Day was sunny and hot all day so by 2 o'clock we were ready to celebrate our 5 course Christmas Dinner. It was nice to have Matt and John with us and made it feel a more festive. Following dinner we rolled off Bella and went to join friends on Seamist for drinks and more food...... The boys got a silent chaos to drag behind the dinghy for Christmas and have been zooming around the ...
Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia bellavitaWe went to this beautiful beach less than five minutes from our hotel room. It was super amazing, the fish actually we by my feet. Christina screamed like a baby, she freaks out at the site of live fish. She yelled at Nemo and flounder. Reduit Beach, St, Lucia's acclaimed best beach.
Gros Islet, Saint Lucia romanusdolor... it's path) - and this was with someone aboard. We decided that it wasn't the owner and this particular fellow didn't really know what to do. We stood by ready to lend assistance, but there wasn't much we could do. All the chap needed to do was pull the anchor up and reset it. We figured he didn't know how to handle the boat, but once he got just a few feet from the other boat, he started his engine and pulled up anchor. Why he ...
Le Marin, Martinique questmiller16/04/08, Wednesday, 18:00, St. Pierre, Martinique Had a nice sail up here today - the wind and current were with us. Mountains here are great. Virgin Mary statue overlooking the town. Watched a pod of dolphins play in clear water on our bow. They were so close, I could hear them breathe when they surfaced.
St. Pierre, Martinique tigereye15/04/08, Tuesday, 22:30, Rodney Bay Dinner and pool was great two nights ago. Had two great days after that hanging out at Scuttlebutts. Met crazy Norwegian guy there today. [No, seriously, this guy was nuts. He and his friends decided to quit their jobs, buy a boat, and sail around the world. One of them had been sailing before - they made him captain. My kind of people.]
Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia tigereye... the I-beam to and Al, using mask and snorkel, went into the water to free our anchor. By the time we settled in on our mooring we were ready for a stiff drink. We met Elaine and Roger for happy hour at the Fort Young Hotel and then had a delicious Creole dinner at a small restaurant in town. The next morning we all went to the huge produce market to replenish our depleted supplies. Everything looked so delicious we ended up over stocking! We returned to our boats, stored our ...
Fort de France, Martinique freespirit2006Back on Martinique. Hired a car. Drove round the island. Stayed for a few days at a banana plantation. Went all over to the old capital, under the vulcano. Visited churches, beaches and museums. I swam in huge waves and saw fish dancing in the sea. Then the waves turned on me and chrashed me into the sandbed. Scratched and bleeding I saw the rest of the day from the ...
