Playa Ancon, Sancti Spiritus Trinidad, Cuba
... the hooves. It was fortunate that he stumbled there because there were many worse places - steep inclines, river crossings, narrow ledges. I managed to walk away with just a few scrapes. Then it was a mad rush back to town so I could catch the bus to Habana. The guide made me a switch and I egged my loose-footed horse as fast as he would go. Phew, made it with just a few minutes to spare.
... Cuba, but of all the places we got asked for things by locals, Trinidad was the worst because it was touristy. Nobody was aggressive, just a bit pushy. We got asked for pens, shampoo and body lotion in a lot of places - Nath and I took some as I'd read this but we soon ran out. Deb and I both got asked for clothing, and Clay was taking off his socks after the horseride to put his sandals on and got asked for the worn socks!
Trinidad, Cuba sarzmc... birds. I don't see the point but it is just part of my understanding less and less about more and more. Feb 20. Last day in Trinidad. Yenni made me my typical breakfast of fruit and omelette served on the little patio just outside my room. I mentioned that the hot water didn't work and it didn't seem to fizz on her too much although she had said that there was hot water. It doesn't matter, I've developed a technique to wash parts of my body at a time that prevents ...
Trinidad, Cuba curioustravel... from Lancaster. It's a small world. I am feeling a little better today after 3 days of forcing myself to digest the bland usual diet of beans, rice, tomato, and something else on the menu. Although there is a lot of it, it has not hit the flavour buds. I went out and got myself a Cuban burger for 2CUC that I enjoyed with a beer sitting by the bay. I saved 5CUC by not eating at the casa and preferred the atmosphere of the ocean than sitting alone at the table at the casa, even ...
Playa La Boca, Cuba curioustravel... donker.
Trinidad, Cuba rien... Casa de la Musica was just around the corner from us, and thus should we go out and at any time feel threatened or overwhelmed we wouldn't have to go far to 'escape'.
At about 6pm we strolled up to an old church above Trinidad, Ermita de Nuestra, Senora de la Candelaria de la Papa. It's located up on a hill and would give us a great view of the city. As we climbed, we were soon surrounded by a group of about 6 kids (jinteros). All of them were demanding money or ...
And so to the town of Trinidad or more properly pronounced ( I think) Hrinida - Hrinida is in Coowa according to our guide, Gloria, but then he is from Costa Rica... so who knows. Anyway, what a town, our favorite to date. Photo, Mojito and Salsa opportunities everywhere - well Gill and I did the Mojito bit, having "plateaued" very early on in our Salsa lessons. We can do the one two three twirl bit - but we continue to look and feel ...
Trinidad, Trinidad, Cuba easties... each. But they consisted of four small slices of tomato and four of cucumber aligned down each side of the plate, with something that sort of smelled like an open sewer running down in between the two lines. I think that it had cabbage in it, but couldn't swear to it ...
Trinidad, Trinidad, Cuba terryback... a result of that movement, not its cause. The perfect ending to our time in Trinidad comes at the bus stop. Jorge helps lug our bags the 10-minute walk to the station. Even with me loaded up with bags, the extra hands help. Just before boarding, I realize I´ve left the peanut butter in the fridge. Oh well, another casualty, but it´s one we´ll feel more heavily. We bid farewell to Jorge and take our seats ...
Trinidad, Cuba mbgower... procuring stuff for running the casa and the history of the town. It should probably alarm everyone reading this that much of the information I narrate from my time in the country is acquired through similarly poorly grasped conversations. Jorge persists in talking to me, so I guess I must offer some level of diversion. The author of the Lonely Planet book we´re using stayed here and told our hostess, Odalis, that it´s one of the best casas particulares ...
