To Flanders

Another day, another mode. Today we went by Eurotunnel to Calais. This has got worse since our list trip with long queues to go through French and British border control. So much so that they have reduced the number of cars getting a security check. If you want a reason why the security checks on Eurostar are superfluous, it's the fact that you could bring a ton of semtex onto a shuttle train so ...

Our last day travelling to Calais. Frosty again. We set off towards the motorway, We plan to blast along it to be there by lunch time. Not long after we left the canal side we saw signs for Nouvion!! Allo Allo fans will know that is the fictitious town where Rene's cafe is! What a surprise! As we passed through Nouvion we could see it was nothing like the TV set, what a disappointment. Liam also gave a special mention to Jimmy ...

... tolls roads and saving a fortune. Our arrival in Roen was not made easy with a road block forcing us to go through smaller roads that we would have like, Stephen got one toot for a minor give way error, otherwise we arrived down town unscathed.

We noticed a long line of campers parked on the other side of the Seine and were able to navigate our way through the town one way system to arrive at our ...

... before our last walk along the river back to the campsite. What has struck us is how the river seems to be at the heart of the city life. I guess if you live in apartments and aren't too close to coast or lakes then you have to use the resources available to you but once again as we walked it was being used by the locals and it and the area surrounding it were spotlessly clean showing how much it is appreciated and loved. Tomorrow we head back into France. 9th July. Usual ...
