One could witness High altitude mountain sickness, so it is advisable to carry medicines and have ample amount of water and if possible carry a small oxygen cylinder specially if on bikes as a precautionary measure. We decided to move on and our final halt was LEH. We almost reached there on 26th early morning and with a little rest we were again ready to explore the beautiful city.

... to double check it was only the half size as it was huge! It was probably my best meal so far and it upset me that I couldn't finish it all.
In the morning we made a plan of action to see 5 main tourist attractions - a rock garden, surya lake, the capital complex, rose gardens and the shopping area. Chandigarh isn't like what I've seen of India so far. The streets are clean, there's lots of greenery with the city set out like a grid with lots of sign posts. ...

  • Stopped off at the train station to try and purchase tickets for the narrow gauge toy train to Kalka, but were told to come back tomorrow and buy on the day. Followed the ridge to the Himachal State Museum, an interesting museum of sculptures, paintings and brass work from the province. The museum was housed inside a nice colonial style building with a massive telecoms tower behind it.

    ... not the India you'd think of. It's also rife with monkeys. Hanuman the Hindu god who is half man half monkey is top dog here and there's an enormous orange statue of him at the back of the city. Hindus are incredibly proud of it and worship the statue and the monkeys, although there are signs everywhere to say that they are fun but dangerous 'monkey will bite!'.
