This of course never transpired in Nicaragua as the US preferred the option of building the said canal further south, hence the Panama Canal.

El Castillo's fort was built in the 17th Century above a series of rapids and was incredibly important in defending the Spanish Empire from the marauding British pirates ...
San Jose, Province of San Jose, Costa Rica hess... there, but had to get back to the hostel for breakfast.

We got some huevos rancheros for breakfast and the tour bus pulled up to pick us up for canyoning. Canyoning was simply amazing. There were 5 rappels total, the first of which was a massive 165 feet down a sheer waterfall cliff. We took it like champs. It was beautiful weather, cool water, and a great group of guides. Later we hiked back out and had a great ...
San Jose, Province of San Jose, Costa Rica bryan_alex... 8217;t be too careful!

So off we went back to San Jose following the main highway past the Poas Volcano looming dark and menacing. We were staying at the Hotel Bougainvillia in Heredia just outside San Jose and although we thought it might be difficult to find we hadn’t prepared for such a problematic journey. I think we must have gone up and down every road in Heredia trying to find the way to the hotel but there were no signs at ...
San Jose, Province of San Jose, Costa Rica jowhiting... here are very often stray and just do whatever they want. I don’t feel very comfortable with that because they just follow and I don’t know whose they are or where they come from…maybe they have a disease, I don’t know…so I get annoyed when they follow us and try to get close to us. When we got back to our hotel, we were able to see the volcano from our porches so we watched for a few minutes then went inside. My friend and I watched a ...
San Jose, Costa Rica rkamish125... to sleep. The boys stayed over extremely late. My room of girls went to sleep at like 10:30 because we were so tired but the others and the boys sat out on our porch directly in front of our window until after 1a. They decided to talk about us, not realizing or just not caring that the windows were only screens and curtains, so we were able to hear everything. It made everything frustrating and sour after that (for the next few days) because they said some nasty ...
San Jose, Costa Rica rkamish125... in Alaska for years, he moved to Costa Rica and started a windshield repair business. That was 20 years ago. He now has a successful bustling business. On the Pacific coast, he owns a 1500 acre farm with 60 horses. His dream is to give horseback tours across the country. But his auto business will not allow him the time to pursue his dream, so he feels stuck in San Jose.
. Rick''s shop installs stereos and alarms and since he was helping me I thought ...
Orosi, Province of Cartago, Costa Rica lisavalencia... time (Monday on my walk home). I figured that it would be good because Wednesday was English Exam day. Like last time, only half the kids showed. I have an issue with this. When students live so far away why have them walk all the way for 40 usually 30 minutes of English. The class can move forward when I only have half the kids. I can't seem to figure out how to make the class some sort of reward on these days since we already play games on a regular basis ...
La Estrella del Guarco, Costa Rica mmm.cafecitos... a guide to take us on a tour of the Manuel Antonio National park... so we went on the tour even though we all wanted to sleep. The tour turned out to be a great idea, the guide was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. We also got to see a lot of wildlife through his spotting scope that we would have never noticed otherwise. Right away we saw a couple Howler Monkeys, they are very impressive and LOUD. There are some amazing animals ...
Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica djsanscrainte... better connected to the rest of the world. Also Danilo gave me a little dreadlock, "rasta" as they call them here so i now have a chunk of sea glass hanging out of my hair on the end of it. Don't worry people, not going to do the whole head, it kind of reminds me of the embroidery thread hair wraps we used to do back in elementary school. So thats what I've been up to, hopefully i'll get back into the swing of updating this more often so you can get more details! kp
Ostional, Costa Rica kaypeaI've been making notes on all the miscellaneous things I've noticed about Puriscal that I haven't written about yet. I want to get them in here before I forget. Back home, zoning regulations would prevent the layout of this town. People operate little candy and snack shops out of their homes, and there doesn't appear to be much of a separation between commercial, school, and residential areas. Cars with giant speakers on the roof drive around ...
