Blockade busting After having seen Black Vulture and Dalmatian Pelican we ended up in the town of Alexandropolis. Not exactly a metropolis, but big enough. We found a hotel with a family room, and went out to the streets. Most shops were closed and that made getting birthday gifts for Sander a challenge. Not that we had tried before, the first one was already bought in Aleppo. This morning we had to do with written promises. Who likes a mobile phone with Greek texts anyhow? After an hour we e...
Silvis, Greece robertandtanjaWe did it again. Rose quite early, had breakfast after a good night and then went north towards the Macedonian border. Each time we saw a tractor, our heart skipped some beats. Fraying nerves and red spots in our necks. Shortly before ten we passed through Edessa, where we saw at least thirty tractors. The crossings before and after were already manned by the police to divert traffic. A few kilometers after that another cluster of those big wheeled monsters. It was past ten at that moment, so...
Ohrid, Macedonia robertandtanja... had a couple of days in Ohrid, in my guesthouse was a family of 5 from NSW who were doing a tour of Greece and Macedonia (impressive since they had three young kids). The town itself is quite small and didn't take too long to walk around, there are a number of churchs on a steep hill on the east side of the town overlooking the lake and remains of a bascilica. The fortress was a surpise as the outside walls were ...
Ohrid, Macedonia travellingjen...

Gruss
Ralf
Bitola, Macedonia schwateHallo zusammen,

So ...
Ohrid, Macedonia schwateOur trip out of Albania was an exciting one. The only direct way from Albania to Ohrid was from Tirana. To avoid and extra few hours on the bus, we decided to take the more interesting route. One bus from Berat to Elbessan. In Elbessan we were told we have to transfer to a Feurgon (basically a van/taxi that waits until it is full to head off). Unfortunately, everyone had a different version of where to catch the Feurgon. we wondered around a bit, asked several people, got ...
Ohrid, Macedonia maam... energy and even thought the men had fixed the key and lock situation I didn't feel safe and Ned agreed so we headed for Macedonia... The Macedonian boarder was to date the only one we have had problems with.... the ***** on the border gave us a really hard time, I think she thought she was in some 50's communist movie complete with peroxide hair and frown! We were totally ripped off at the boarder as our insurance didn't cover us here so we had to pay 130 euro to be ...
Ohrid, Macedonia shikhabelle... not supposed too but they do anyway. After resting and listening to Melisa and Marija catch up, we left to go back to Melisa's house. There we sat outside on their beautiful landscaped porch and visited some more. We also got our left over along with some more fruit. Melisa's brother Bledi arrived just before we got ready to leave. After leaving we went to St Bogorodica ( Bog-God, Ragja-gives birth- means ...
Struga, Macedonia brandilinasue... roman ruin with mosaics. We both remembered reading about it. It had been a basilica - huge one at that. There was nothing much left though, just the floor with mosaics. There was a restored medieval church further down the hill so we went to see that too. Church of St Clements I think. Very nice. I love the architecture of the churches here. We looked at the mosaics near that too and wandered down a track that eventually led down to an old ...
