... hours and forty-five minutes of it, with a nap in between. As we started our descent into Geneva, I pulled open the window shade and looked out at the snow-speckled ground. It didn't look like much at first, but as we got lower and closer to the city, these mountains grew out of nowhere! Geneva is surrounded by the Alps and the Jura. I had guests from India, Madagascar, Brazil, the United States and Germany. I spent my birthday 21st birthday surrounded by people from different races, religions and backgrounds, united by the bonds of friendship. In the end, can you think of a more Canadian concept than ...

My plan was hatched. The target for the day was a 2222m mountain near Bernex called Dent D'Oche. It had a route to the summit and a refuge some 200m below that. It was a glorious day. Nick was taking the kids and Mum to a small lake nearby, which was set up for swimming. It had a slide which you could bounce down on inner-tubes; it had a floating 'ice-berg'; it had boats; it had a zip-wire. I was sure they wouldn't miss me.
