      ... occupied Hungary for 20 years after WW II. They resided in the palace as well as making part of it a home for the aged!! Restoration began only in 1991 and about 2/3rds has been restored. Prague was also occupied, but the guide didn't refer to it as the Budapest guide did.

      ... of medieval remnants and enjoyed great views of the city. All of that walking made us thirsty, so we decided to stop for a drink while we were up on Buda hill! We sat down at the touristy - but worth it for the view - bar right where the tour ended at the Fisherman's Bastion (see the picture of our two wine glasses overlooking the city).       ... to the Carpathian Basin. Also located in Pest we passed House of Terror, the building used by security police of both the Nazis and Soviets to interrogate and torture dissidents. It is now a museum, opened in 2002 chronicling the repression the Hungarians experienced.
