      ... perfect.
We had a walk thro the pine forests and a dip in the sea - Matt choosing to sketch and perfect his stone-skimming instead before getting the last boat back at 6pm. The boat load arriving was full of the young, beautiful glitterati from Cannes clearly coming for a wedding or other party, making us feel even more dowdy tourists compared to their Armani suits and designer dresses! Happy tho not to have the stress of keeping up with the pack - it must be exhausting!!

Some how we managed to run into each other and caught a taxi (i was too lazy to walk with all my bags) back up to his apartment. After a bit of an orientation Tim, Klinta (a friend of Tim's) and I went for a quick walk down to the esplanade and then stopped for dinner - as i realised that I had not eaten since breakfast at Gatwick Airport. ... fine for our needs for the next two days.
We had our first swim in the Mediterranean, which was lovely as its 33 degrees.
Never complain about the coarse sand at Mt Martha again, the pebbles at Nice are a killer, murder on the feet. But it was so refreshing. Magnificent.
A quiet night in, with local provisions, and a pretty ordinary bottle of red, and a catch up on lost sleep.
Tomorrow, off on the coastal drive to Monaco.
Look out, our little VW Polo is going to get a work ...

He said one day he did 150 miles, but I'm pretty sure he meant kilometers because well...I can't fathom biking that much in one day.

It was almost 10pm and so we made our way to the port to watch the fireworks. We thought we had seen pretty much the whole city/country, but Walter ...

... but I guess in summer they must be busy. Still seems a ridiculous notion to me that anyone can own a stretch of the beach....surely it belongs to everyone? Lots of designer and brand names in this boulevarde and if you want to buy anything, you better have the big bucks baby! We return to the hotel and book our Roma accommodation, then go out again for dinner. We have found Cannes so far, very uninspiring, although our hotel is very nice. Still, tomorrow, all roads lead to ...
