... Our final stop was the Peggy Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art, one of the most important art collections in Italy. It is located in her former residence along the Grand Canal and contains her personal collection including many Jackson Pollock pieces. The weather has been great and Venice certainly didn't disappoint! We're looking forward to a new adventure tonight as we catch the night train to Vienna--I wonder how we'll sleep in the cuccelle (sleeping ...

Today was a day of sightseeing, souvenir shopping and eating! The weather was warm and sunny - no jackets today! We started out at the St. Mark's Basilica in the famous St. Mark's Square. We had to line up, but not for too long. Inside there was a lot of gold, and relics from many saints including their bones, teeth, etc. The tile mosaics on the floor were beautiful, as were the paintings and gold on the walls and ceilings. Karen and Pat left the hotel early as their flight departed 'at the crack of dawn'. Cathy and Mick arrived mid-morning and the airport was PACKED. Note to future travelers - arrive 4 hrs before departure time if you are not traveling 1st/biz class and 3hrs ahead if you are. If you do fly 1st Class, take the special security line in the middle of the terminal, to expedite your time in the security zone.

So while Mel was in the tub, I unpacked all my wet stuff. Purse, backpacks and suitcases are all soaked including some stuff in them. The scotch guard didn't quite hold up as we would have hoped TL.

Next on the agenda…we need FOOD.

... br> Although the weather was cooler, I was grateful that we visited in the Winter. As we stayed in Mestre the buses back to the hotel stop quite early, so by visiting in the Winter we were lucky to see Venice in the sun and at night as the sun went down. We took the same ride down the Grand Canal at night, which was spectacular. We even got to watch two cruise ships navigate through Venice as they made their way onto other destinations. These massive ships put the tiny Gondola's ...
