    ... the electricity went out throughout town, we all dispersed back to the hotel, and we've had a quiet night in. So we shall see what tomorrow holds. Hopefully we will be able to meet with Dona Patrice, the amazing founder of CASEM. She had polio, walks with two braces, and has used her "deficiencies" (as she calls it ) to get the attention of others to make changes in life here in Monteverde. More later about that... My thumb is about done with typing now ...

    ... terms of roads. The road wound it's way up, down and around the surrounding hills of Lago Arenal with great views of Volcan Arenal.

    We hadn't made any bookings for accommodation, we figured being low, or Green, season that we could just turn up and check out the rooms when we got there. We had picked out Arenal Hostel Resort as our first choice and were pleased we did. We had a large room with AC, cable TV and even a couple of rocking chairs ...

    ... hostel pool. Temptation was too great not to try the balance beam across the pool. Big mistake. When one leg falls off on one side and the rest of your body goes the other, injuries are sustained. This happened to me three times and then I gave up. No one made it past half way.

    ... armadillo, kinkajou, agouti, coati, a sleeping porcupine snuggled in a tree. A good range if animals and really cool to see, and again the guide was full of information and interesting facts. The experience was dampened though by the sheer number of people and the excess noise. Worth doing, but don't go in expecting too much! Went out with Rach for a local meal after before heading to bed pretty early - planned an early start the next day to get to the cloud forest as it ...

    ... we were chicken). After much discussion (and a few drinks) we signed up for the morning trip which would leave the afternoon free. You all know I love a good adrenaline rush..but for the first time, I was actually scared. But if Robin was willing to do it, you sure as heck know I'm all in.
