... the euro. I can't blame them really. From what i could gather, Poland was becoming more and more expensive, yet wages hadn't kept pace. It was a similar story in most of eastern Europe. The barbecue Anita's uncle put on that afternoon was by far the best meal I have had in years. It was just barbied bits of flesh, but the meat was so tender and delicious. Something hard to find back in London.
Three days went quickly, and before we knew it ...
Jelenia Góra ('deer mountain') is about couple of hours south from Wroclaw (trains or buses). It is close to the Karkonosze mountain range running along the Polish-Czech border. Only 10-15 km of the town there are few ski resorts such as Karpacz, Szklarska Poreba.
Nice, colorful Market Square, Cyprian Kamil Norwid Theatre, Saint Cross Church, the Old Town are just few places worth of seeing.

... rain delay of the trip. We were camping just outside the town of Podebrady, and it rained all evening, all night, and all morning. It was too gross to contemplate, so we decided to sit it out. Well, most of a novel, a couple beers, and 3 hours of Olympic track and field coverage later (the campground had a restaurant, with TV) it actually did stop raining. By then it was 5 pm so we chalked that day up to Recovery. We DID learn that ...
Teplice, Bohemia, Czech Republic steffeff... stopem na dwie raty do Szklarskiej Poreby. Nareszcie w domu! No, prawie. Potem juz polskim PKSem do Jeleniej Gory - a stamtad juz prosta droga do domu - Wroclawia i Opola. Chcielismy spedzic noc we wlasnych lozkach, dlatego ostatni odcinek przejechalismy platnym trasportem. Ahh znowu pokonalismy tysiace kilometrow, w wiekszosci na stopa! Dokonalismy niemozliwego (autostop w Grecji), spotkalismy indywidulistow, ktorzy ...
Szklarska Poreba, Western Poland, Poland bogna... clouded over, and the town was virtually empty, giving it a strange feel. The rynek was nice enough, like any Polish town, although the cappuccinos we had in one of the restaurants certainly weren't. It was quite possibly the worst I'd had in my entire time in Europe, and with some shady characters making their way inside we decided to make a move. Swidnica was actually home to a UNESCO world heritage listed wooden church, and supposedly the birthplace of the German WWI flying ace known ...
Karpacz, Western Poland, Poland will... no one home I presume. Tomorrow we are going to visit the town as its apparently a great example of Czech centres so we will see. 10/10/07 Day 72 Rob - washing day today, but the German woman wont relinquish control of the dryer so Jenn is fuming, staring out of the window and scowling). (JENN- in my defence we are totally out of clothes, Rob has no knickers (day 2 for today's garments) and is down to his last shirt so its make or break time. Rob is ...
Trutnov, Czech Republic rob.jennWith most of my more recent trips involving city after city, I felt I was long overdue for a mountain trip. I can't remember how I first heard of them, but the mountains in the Gory Stolowe National Park, near the Czech border had been on my list of places to see ever since I first came Poland, and given they were only two hours drive from Opole and glorious weather was forecast for the weekend I knew the time had come. Hiring a car for the day, I ...
Gory Stolowe National Park, Poland willJanuary 26 Finally after the long and crowded bus ride (where I stood the whole way), we arrived slightly tired in Trutnov and went to her father's place. We cooked ourselves a decent meal and relaxed a bit, danced some valse and watched animations until pretty late by night... then it was time to sleep! ---------- January 27 Again waking up slowly and finally kicking ourselves to go out, we picked the skis and went to the ...
Trutnov, Czech Republic maplefantaThe Trutnov Music Festival was more music than festival, not in quantity, yet quality. Standard comments included, "you should have been here last year," and, "tomorrow night will be better." Apparently the good bands came on at 3am, we never managed to stay awake. We steered clear of the Hare-Krishna tent all-together, only to be dubbed as such while jingle-jangeling our newly bought castanets through the moonlit campsites in search of ...
Trutnov, Czech Republic markszulgit... We decided to eat at the airport, which was good, because we got lost and were pulled over by the Czech Police (who wanted payment in Czech money right then, which we didn't have, so they let us go rather than hauling us to the station ... a friend who has lived in Prague suggested it was because the kids were in the car ... I don't know, but I was happy). Finally, we found the road to ...
