... back I think they just turned the temperature setting right up for when the room wasn't in use)Sat 13/12/14

  • I woke up, showered and ate the yogurt that I had left on the windowsill.
  • There was a saxophone player busking on the street below. I could here him clearly from my room.
  • I updated my diary and then headed to the brewery museum. The lady at the reception tried explaining something to me but I couldn't quite work it out. ...

... is done, and yup, it was cold. After the tour we went to dinner at the brewery restaurant. I had beef filet roasted in Pilsner and sausage. We sat with two gentlemen from Romania - that was very interesting! I slept the whole way back and it was very late when we returned- which is why this post is so late!

Today we are waiting for a bus to take us to Karlovy Vary which is a spa town and the location of the Moser Glass ...

... to store and transport beer, refrigeration for houses, and fresh water. They were cool and moist, and I’m glad we had a guide with us or we most definitely would have got lost! The poor guide, even in Czech, you could tell she was nervous, and we learned at the end of the tour that it had been her very first tour being the guide on her own!

We had yet more rain in Pilsen, but found a restaurant close to the hotel. ...

... agreed that this was the best dish of all and I certainly thought it was too. The warm food was a contrast to the storm outside.

From lunch we found the summer castle. Skies had cleared so it was perfect timing.

The castle was closed for the day but the gardens were quite beautiful. We wandered about for some time before heading down the path to some Hungarian Coffee, a coffee with egg liquor.

Time to get back to Amberg and watch the world ...

... gardens around the perimeter of the old town where the city walls and moat used to be. And best of all, no crowds. Of course it isn't anywhere near as beautiful as Prague. I walked around the old town for a little and went into the gothic cathedral of St Bartholomew. I also went up the tower for some great views. You can see the hills of Germany from there.
