A night at the top of Stelvio Pass

A travel blog entry by adventurescot on Nov 01, 2014

... from fast sweeping curves to extremely tight curves.

Finally I reach the town of Stelvio which is just like many towns in this neck of the world with very narrow streets making their way between the wonderful painted up buildings.

I turn up right and this is me now on the climb up Stelvio pass. This road up is extremely narrow and must have about 30 or so hairpin bends. With it being so narrow one has to be extremely careful not to go out too far on the ...

Sunny Switzerland - a Hikers Paradise

... my hiking boots. In fact there seem to be more back country / sporting stores than fashion stores.
I like Zurich. We found a lot of the places my sister and I explored as well as the 'Walking Tour' sites marked out on the map. Again we enjoyed wandering without any real plan.
At 13:55 the next day (precisely) we boarded the train to Jona (yo-nah). Katharina was there to meet us at the station. Again we had drizzle but not for long! Plans for ...

Next stop the Nebelhorn in the Allgäu Alps

A travel blog entry by theresaford on Oct 10, 2014

The next (crazy!) idea I had was to tackle the Nebelhorn - http://www.das-hoechste.de/en/summer/mo untains/nebelhorn/ which is just a four hour drive away in the Allgäu. The point of this madness was that from the bottom (815m) to the top (2224m) is around the same climb as I will do in Nepal (up to 1420m!). This was definitely the most difficult walking I've done so far. It was so steep at times with a variety of terrains from walking on tarmac roads ...

Exploring the Austrian Alps

... their bells and wreaths of greenery with fresh flowers around their necks. Eldon thought he got a video of it, but for some reason it didn't work. It was so cool to see. They were bringing the cattle down from the high summer pastures to the lower winter area.

We had hoped to spend a night in this area but there was an obvious celebration going on in all the little villages. ...

Wonderful Wildspitze

A travel blog entry by rolandandlinda on Aug 28, 2014

Thursday 28 August

Moved on this morning, up the Pitztal valley, just south
of Imst. Went up to the Pitztal glacier, taking the Glacier Express(tunnel
train) followed Tyrol’s highest cable car to the restaurant at 3,440m, near the
top of the Wildspitze (3,774m). Perfect weather for a day in the snow – blue
skies and no wind.

Staying near Jerzens tonight. Had a great evening meal at
the campsite restaurant ...
