R: After our tasty watermelon for breakfast our rations were done and we needed food but unfortunately most of the Dutch shops are closed on a Sunday and I was informed that the closest supermarkets open were in Ujst (8km) and Sneek (10km). Kat seemed pretty settled so I decided to cycle over, the weather seemed nice and I figured do it before it got too hot. I got to Ujst pretty easily and enjoyed the ride, it is a nice little town with water running through it in all directions and ...

Found the site easily enough even though I had forgotten the address. It was further out of the way than we expected which was nice. After a bbq we spent the evening sat next to the river and watched the sunset, perfect start to our hols and we stayed in Heeg for 3 ...

Fantastic, at last we wake up to sunshine. A quick breakfast, some office work and off on an expedition to somewhere. I say somewhere since navigating this area is difficult. I think this is because everything is so flat and so it all looks the same. It is very easy to become disorientated and head back the way you already came. Today we decided to get clever and wrote down all the ...

In the morning we were greeted with overcast and coldish weather but decided to be positive and put on a T shirt and a light jacket and tempt the weather to do its worst. This ploy appeared to work for as we set off on our bikes for a long tour of the Friesan countryside, the sun began to poke its way through the clouds.

Our plan was to head south towards a Nature Reserve that showed lots of lakes and windmills on the ...
