... and sauerkraut. Didn't really care for the dumplings and sauerkraut but the goulash soup was great.

Then on to the brewery. Pilsner Urquell has been purchased by a conglomerate, the South African Brewers or SAB but Pilsner Urquell has also become their flagship as it is such a good beer. It was our misfortune to be there on a day when they were cleaning the lines in the bottling and ...

... put before him...

The tour starts with the production line - the cleaning of recycled glasses, the airation & subsequent dispensing of beer into glasses and laser scanning of the bottles for imperfections, this was pretty much how it worked for the cans aswell (minus the recycling step).

If I could bore you with all the ...

Visiting the Pilsner Urquell Brewery

Today we went to the Pilsner Urquell brewery in Plzen. Pilsner, the type of beer, originated here, where Pilsner Urquell was brewed from local crops and local mineral water. The tour was awesome. We saw the traditional brew kettles and the modern ones, as well as a very modern new packaging plant. We also tasted some unpastuerized beer directly from fermenting barrels.

... we camped at this weird, seemingly abandoned hotel. After we ride miles out of our way to get there this lady tells me in broken few words and mostly hand gestures that we can't stay there it's only for people of an association. I'm not sure if it was my puppy dog eyes or my deadly looks but in the end she let us camp out back. It was kinda weird because we were the only ones there.

An excursion to Telc

... like fun to get out of the flat for the day, so I went with them. Leah bought us bus tickets for 8:00 a.m. We met on the corner of our street at 7:20 and took the metro to the bus stop. The bus was full on the way there and it took us about 2 1/2 hours to get there. Big surprise, I was getting a little car sick as the roads were very curvy. From what I saw, it was very pretty terrain. We ...

Half Day Trip to Karlstejn Castle

Arrived in Karlstejn on the "City Elephant" train at 1.20pm and walked 2km to the Karlstejn Castle. Went on the 2.30pm English tour of the castle which took about an hour. No photography allowed inside the castle. Took in the views over the town before walking back to the train station and catching the train back to Prague.

Telc

Telc(h), 22 - 25 July, 2004 July is a warm month with long days, so we decided to take advantage of it. We made a four-day, long weekend journey to the small, 16th century town of Telc, south east of Prague and about 20 miles north of the Austrian border. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We decided to take the bus, as that is the best way to get there. The tickets were amazingly cheap. Return tickets for the two of us were 488kc (about $19.50). The two and one-half hour bus ...

Prague to Telc

Thought you might enjoy this picture that we took at sunset, about 22:00, of part of the main square inTelc. The towers are the Jesuit Church (two front and back left spires) and St. James Church (the square one). What a wonderful place to visit. The arcaded buildings and square in the Old Town are virtually unchanged since being built in the 16th century following a fire that destroyed the town in 1530. It was ...

... of this is done facing the altar with his back to the people. Typically Lutheran, there is lots of hymn singing from the LBW. Sermons are geared to the Gospel of the day with little or no reference to current situations, problems, etc. Today we didn't even pray for the people in Georgia or Turkey. Food is still cheap. After church today Fred and I went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch. We each had a good lunch and a glass of beer for a total of 152kc ($6.00). We have frequented ...

... medevial towns found throughout the country of Czech Republic. We enjoyed 2 sunny and quiet days there. Katrinka painted in the square and we walked around the parks and ponds surrounding the town which form part of an ancient defence system. After a horrible day of rain and a long ride in a duct-taped bus (think A-Team), we arrived in Tabor. Most interesting in Tabor was the history involving it's origin and it's occupants the Hussites. Preacher and ...
