... people for fifty years. After allying themselves with Hitler to save their own skins (and, some say, their Jewish population), Hungary was overtaken by the Nazi-affiliated Arrow Cross in the waning days of World War II. Arrow Cross members did their best to exterminate Budapest's Jews. They killed Jews one-by-one in the streets, and were known to tie several victims together, shoot one of them, and throw him into the freezing ...

Taxi fare from hotel to Budapest-Keleti train station 3,000HUF (or NZD 15.50). I'm sitting on the train waiting for it to take off for Vienna. I was wondering what the Austrian trains would be like after the efficiency of the Italian trains. Sitting in our seats now it appears they operate with typical Germanic efficiency. We got to our seats and the signs above were indicating where we were travelling to and from. This train goes ...

We got frustrated with not being able to read menus so we went to mcdonalds instead, ahh familiar. We watched Budapest by night for a bit to admire the lights. We returned home and finished up the rest of Cory's Amsterdam stuff, we aren't bringing it on a ...

... sleep last night and am feeling it today. It was cold and drizzling when we left the apartment at about 9.45 am. The streets were oddly quiet. It definitely looked like we were in the night life district. Some bars were still going. We walked into Vorosmarty Square near Vaci street to get some breakfast. We found a nice cafe restaurant located at the bottom of a hotel. It looked very touristy but everything else seemed closed except for the kebab shops. I really wanted eggs and ...

... blocking all the views, although occasionally I get to see a farm or village. I guess this is the Hungarian countryside though.

Summary recommendation: take the train unless you're on a tight budget. It was a bit more expensive and only dropped me at the train station, where I had to take another bus to the airport, but it was a much nicer ride than the bus and I was able to get more done since the wifi actually worked. Also, I slept better.
