... took the train instead. First thing we did in Ventimiglia was have a good coffee –something impossible to find in France. We toured the markets and then had a lovely Italian lunch before taking the train back. Saturday we took the bus to Eze Village and the next day we had lunch in Nice with Kaye’s friends Katy and John who have an apartment in Nice on the port. A lovely place where you can watch all the local activity and absorb the atmosphere from ...

We have breakfast on the Terrace that provides us with a great view of Lake Como, the sun is shining, a family of swans are swimming past. The breakfast spread is good, coffee is good, ah Bellagio it is everything we expected. As the shops are not open we decide on a walk around to Punta Spartivento or Point where the Wind divides, or to you the Point of the Peninsular. It provides great views to both sides of Lake Como to Varenna to the East and Managgio to the West.

... leaving and we are on the wrong side of the tracks, next train in 90 minutes. Can you call a taxi - yes, but it is a busy time in Bellamo and it will be a 90 minute wait (there is only one taxi in Bellamo). Can we catch a ferry or hire a boat, maybe but it is a 500 metre walk to the ferry station. So armed with a map and a couple of directions we set off and soon find the only ferry for the day which leaves in 5 minutes, what great timing. The ...

Well, we hit the ground running early to pack in as much as we could, given we lost half a day yesterday. Weather did the right thing, the storms cleared and we were greeted with sunshine. Off to St Mark's square, at this time of the morning, ************e there. Church was closed being Sunday for services during the day, so started at the Ducale Palace. Wow, those Venetian Dukes certainly knew how to live! ...
