... level and walk over the bridge to the other side of the stream. There is a road (a series of steps) going up called Via Di Castello (Castle Road). Excellent. Off we go, up and up and up and up. The steps twist around and get steeper. We have gone a long way up and seem no sign of the castle. Eventually, the girls sit and wait and Michael heads on further to see if he can find it. The track deteriorates. The cobble steps give way to very rough ...

We drove to Bellagio and then took the ferry to Varrena with the intention of eating lunch then travelling on to Piona to see an abbey. Just opposite the parking station was the Villa Monastera which has a beautiful botanic garden. We decided to look around the garden. We were met by our host Moione who checked us in, showed us our room, the residence amenities, explained a few sights to see around Lake Como and places to eat. The rest of the afternoon was spent exploring this beautiful area which we've heard so much about through the media. Now that we're here, it's as beautiful and inspiring as we envisioned it! ...

... that there is now a funeral in the church and lots of cars everywhere. The girls are sitting in a little restaurant slightly off the main road but still with a lake view. Here we are in a small village in provincial Italy and the lunch we had was just spectacular! Ricotta filled ravioli in a citrus cream sauce, pork belly with a crust of pistachio. I can't remember the other two meals but just as good - the sort of food you would expect at one of Adelaide's top restaurants maybe. ...

... did not recognise the village name. So we soldier on... We find the turnoff that the GPS shows as leading to the hotel. Up we go, and up and up and finally we arrive at a group of farmhouses. No hotel. Wrong road. So back down we go. Along a bit further and here is a road that both the tourist map and the GPS says should work. We go up again and finally reach a supermarketo and while the road does continue on, it now becomes one ...
