Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

Where to start? Well, I'm sorry this update is a little bit late, I got caught up hiking in the mountains and just having an altogether great time and updating my blog just didn't manage to make its way to the top of my priority list. Like really, give me a bit of a break, I'm exploring Italy!! How am I supposed to find time to write? :) I guess I left you guys in the train somewhere in between Venice and Florence. Our arrival in Florence was great. We met ...

... platform and it's really quite difficult to get cases up and down. Don't know how the oldies get on. Now there are mountains on the horizon with snow on the top. Beautiful! As we get closer to Milano it has become very flat. There seems to be less horticulture/orchards/vineyards and more green paddocks/crops. Maybe they grow wheat up here? They surely need a lot for all the pasta they eat. Got into Milan on time then found my train to go on to ...

... took photos with the group. Back on the bus to the hotel in Lake Maggiore (called Grand Dino), back by 4.30pm, rest the out to a restaurant nearby for dinner with a few of the group, Peter had seafood pasta and I had vegetarian cannelloni. Bought bracelets for gifts back home, walked through to the sister hotel ...

... Will someone call my trainer and tell her I'm exercising?!?!?! We popped on the train to Milan and I only have one word of advice. Do not think twice about buying a first class ticket from Varenna to Milan. It's not much more and if you choose second class, you will most likely stand (bc there are no seats) in the aisle of the train sweating for a full hour. It. Was. Awesome. More on traveling to Florence and 1st night in our apartment to come! Ciao! ...
