Evisa, Corsica, France carivergaNext few days spent out and about in Ajaccio, home of Napoleon and Hello Kitty fanatics... even saw the Hello Kitty car. Population around 60,000 and the largest city in Corsica.
Pretty mellow place, dogs galore including some old lady with her asthmatic pug called Oscar being dominated by one of the many ...
... much, eat... read... sleep... repeat!
Jellyfish galore which looked like lolly wrappers floating past, but apparently pack a mean bite. Luna fish made an appearance, sunbathing on top of the water and two dolphins cruised past but didn't want to play. Someone always had to be awake during the night to keep us out of the way of the huge ...
Bonjour from Corsica. We just got back from our tour and let me tell you something. Ajaccio only has one real claim to fame, that being the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, and they're not shy about reminding you of it. Plenty of Napoleon statues, streets and monuments to see. Want to see where Napoleon was born? Down that street, sir. Want to see the church where Napoleon took communion? Around the corner, madam. Where he ...
Ajaccio, France ronmystyk... with chestnut flour. Elizabeth lives on the top floor with her husband and three kids. Her and her husband moved to Corsica from Belgium to "start a new life" and remodeled the entire house by themselves. During the day, we took a long drive to explore the towns around Campo. First, we went to Filitosa, a site with evidence of settlers on Corsica 10,000 years ago. Then we went to Sartene, an old town on the side of a mountain where we had lunch and soft serve ice cream, which ...
Ajaccio, Corsica, France k1thomasAJACCIO IS GORGEOUS!! The cliffs along the shoreline with the mountains in the background, the buildings, everything- GORGEOUS! Shame I had some inductions to go to and was kept quite busy so I wasn't able to take any pictures or get off the boat, but that will change next time. One word for this port- stunning!
Ajaccio, Corsica, France jparente... a ridge to go or 3. Eventually I peaked at 14:00 hrs. At the top a bee circuled me laughing at the easy route he took compared to me. How and why do bee's fly so high.... There was no hanging around at the top as I was worried time was against me. After half an hour of retracing the path I found the German. When he heard how long was left he decided to turn around. He had got so close but took the sensible option. I left him ...
Ajaccio, Corsica, France broony79... way so I changed tact. Instead I would navigate round the moutain to be in a good position for the sunrise. Once there I sat on a chilly but windless morning watching light for, over the horizon. Then the intense organge ball rising. It could have been magical but it soon dipped under clouds before its full glory was radiating. Decending the 400m meters to the refuge on loose ...
Ajaccio, Corsica, France broony79Day 180. Road to Ota 11/10/08 6am start, ouch. Caught the 6.30am bus to Ajaccio that was running on Corsican time. While waiting I re-read the lonely planet on my days route. It was quite specific, no buses from Ajaccio to Porto from Oct 10, yesterday. Do I miss the West coast and attack the GR20 North from the East, or go West. Wing-it, I continue my plan. The road to Sartène was no different to the day before ...
Ajaccio, Corsica, France broony79... we were doing did not require us to finish in terms of reaching a certain point. But sitting on this street I did not want to give up. But alas our ride arrived and back to Ajaccio we went to meet back up with the rest of our team. No one escaped this trip unharmed......but oh the memories we have- many more than I took the time to share here. I will share more but this entry lets you know what we were doing.
