Several people had walked up and down the route we had taken and I doubt if any of them had realised the significance of what was there!
We made our way back to the MH for lunch and found we had been joined by many other MH's in the car ...

... and nothing was open and the chair lift wasn't running. So we decided to press on to a campsite we had picked out at Murat-le-Quare. It was called Le Panoramique and promised , what else,panoramic views over the Puys!

Wednesday 11th June

We said a sad farewell to Jane and Eric this morning and headed to the motorway and the Massif du Sancy in Auvergne (Masif Central). The area is volcanic in origin with numerous lakes and mountains high enough to ski on in winter. We have a walking map of the area from a previous visit but neither of us has any recollection of the area, where we stayed or what we did.

... could mean a hail storm. We thought we'd better go back and but the car and caravan under a kind of big car port which was actually the place where there would be a small market tomorrow morning. Yesterday we left the town of Besse-et-St-Anastaise, a medieval town in the Puys du Dome region of Auvergne. This was another magic spot we lucked upon, (thank you Google) staying in the ramparts of the old fort. Our front gates were actually set in the old town wall. The Belfoi Tower was the main gate originally...and so old! We are loving all the history we are discovering.
